I have a couple thoughts regarding last nights marathon rumor fest that this deal would be announced within hours. First of all, for this deal to be imminent I would think Drew Rosenhaus would not have been so accessible when Dan Patrick called his cell yesterday. It didn't sound to me that he was locked down in negotiations with anyone.

I also found the article (Pricey backs aren't in Cards' plans Kent Somers) this AM interesting. Obviously a media plant by the Cards. To me it reeks of a pre negotiating tactic to get the James camp to thinking that we should probably get realistic on contract demands or get comfortable with Indy's one year deal.

It also could be intended to neutralize any other teams that might bid up the Cards potential offer by making the appearance that we may not be as interested as last nights "this is a done deal rumor" suggested.

I am really torn on this trade concept. My gut tells me he will cost too much for a guy in his position (age, injury etc). Logic tells me a #8 pick with this years talent should yield a great RB. Then history reminds me of #7 pick Thomas Jones.

Still stoked. Sitting here waiting for America to wake up and let me know that he's ours.

next you'll tell me Santa doesnt exist

Come on, Santas real, but I often question the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy. I mean how can a bunny carry all those baskets, and the tooth fairy -- did she win the lottery, or what?

Getting James would really put the spotlight on this team in the national media. That's why I'm for it.

Dang! I just posted something similar under the Atlanta Interested in Hartwell thread. But I'll repeat the gist of it here:

Quite possibly the Cardinals (a) tendered a "take it or leave it" offer to one or both of the RB's agents and/or (b) leaked this to the press.

But I'm guessing the reason had more to with maintaining control of the overall negotiating process than a simple price tug-of-war.

I don't think Dennis and Rod want to find themselves in a situation where they let Hartwell get away because they were sitting around waiting for the RB situation to resolve itself. I think they do, in fact, feel that the chance of landing either James or Alexander is fairly remote, but too good an option not to at least pursue.

They didn't want the agents for James, Alexander, Henry or Hartwell to hijack the agenda by either rushing the Cardinals or making them sit around and wait. (i.e. You want to make time your friend; not your enemy).

Just a guess.

Me too, I would like to know one way or the other, so we can move on to other things.

What I don't understand, is how come Kathy Lee gets in trouble for slave labor and yet Santa has thousands of midgets working for free and no one does anything?

Someone may have already mentioned this, but there us an excellent artcle by Charles Robinson on Yahoo Sports that explains why the Cardinals and other teams may not be interested in Edge or Alexander. I tried to copy the link but it was too long.
