The only thing I am worried about with him is that he won't be in shape when the season starts.

Everyone has been wondering without any knowledge what is going on and he is confirming the guy is in rehab. For the many here that were asking if he was in rehab, there is the answer. Best cards reporter we have in az

The past few years - the player on the souvenir cup has always matched the player on the game day program.

The Texans' game: Cup was Abraham, but the game day program was Lyle Sendlein.

Makes me think the cups were already made, but they had time to switch the cover of the programs.

So is he doing rehab for the public or does he really have a problem with alcohol/substance?

My father-in-law sat next to Abraham first flight of the morning from Sky Harbor to Atlanta several weeks back. He hadn't slept, drank a whole bottle of wine and got cut off within first hour of flight, and nearly got arrested he was so disorderly. The guy drinks A LOT.

Whatever football ability he loses as far as being in shape while in rehab (and my guess is he's in a pretty high end clinic with a gym) he'll make up for and then some by not drinking anymore if he does stay on the wagon.

That is some straight up Columbo sh#t right there! Nice work, BIM.

Hopefully Abraham can get his life back together. There is life after football.

Multiple DUIs, with the most recent being totally passed out at the wheel of a running car in an intersection, ..... how much more of a problem do you need?

Yeah, the guy is never going to be told to leave AA because he really doesn't have a problem. He's an alcoholic.

Pretty sad. Again, I posted in the PJ Tucker about this situation and i'll say it again- Why not hire a full time driver or at least on that is on call so this doesn't happen again. Especially a veteran that has been in the league for a long time and one that has had DUI's in the past. There would be tons of people to be dying to have this job. Not only they get paid for this, but they can say they are the "personal driver" for a professional athlete. If I could afford a driver, I would love to have one. I like to enjoy an occasional drink here and there, but with the AZ laws there is really no leniency for drinking and driving. Not to mention the risk of hurting or killing someone else.

I imagine most of the athletes with this type of lifestyle don't want to raise the concern of the teams that pay them. Especially if they get plum wasted, a designated driver employed by the club would most likely have a log sheet and at some point might be questioned. But I am with you 100% on the idea. A non-disclosure business might just thrive in these days, because these guys won't call their team mates, girlfriends, or a regular taxicab even, with the bloggers out there today.

There's a million discreet car services in every major American city. See Uber.

Totally agree with you. I know a lot of them don't want to call the designated phone number that the teams give them because they don't want it to get back to the front office.

Yes. Uber is a fantastic service. My wife and her friends went to the Justin Timberlake concert this past Saturday and they Uber ed it. They were able to have a few cocktails in the back of the car and instead of looking for a parking place or sitting in the traffic, they got dropped off right at the concert. Then they had the driver come back after the concert and take them to their hotel. One of the most brilliant concepts someone came up with! Safe and smart

Good for Abraham. I suspected it might be something like this. Way to get his life under control. When quitting any substance, one of the best ways to keep your mind focused is through athletics. I think it is possible we get a highly motivated John Abraham when he returns.

Props to Keim and Arians for keeping a tight lip on it.

I was wrong. You are everyone else who thought he was in rehab were right. I understand the confidentiality aspect of this and why BA&SK did not mention it publicly. Had Abraham participated in the OTAs and mini-camps I would have been more inclined to believe he was in rehab...but the pattern of non-participation had me convinced that he had some kind of agreement with BA&SK that included their permission to miss the first couple weeks of TC.

What's curious to me still, however, was SK's statement that "it's nothing."

That's about as strong a euphemism as Keim could have used, because obviously rehab for alcoholism is a very serious matter.

So, quite honestly, Keim had me fooled...and kudos to those of you who could see through the rhetoric, when I clearly couldn't.

All this said, I hope Abraham stays in rehab as long as it takes in order to help him save his life and possibly others'. At this point his well-being is paramount.

I think they just didn't want to air his dirty laundry. don't think there was any malicious intent behind it. I think both Keim and BA referred to a couple times as personal issue and the less said, the better for him.

Guy has millions of dollars, and he is in, what might be, his last season in the NFL.

If he is in rehab its for himself.

Sounds like a pretty fair judgement. Hope he can get the help he needs. I have been close (like a lot of people here, I'm sure) to someone that has a substance abuse problem and it is horrible to see the person that I used to know is now mentally no longer the same person....

I think it is pretty simple to understand why Keim said what he did. It would do zero good for Abraham, or the team, to slag on him when he was in rehab. So, he just put the best spin on it possible, which was "I'm not worried", because it helps Abraham want to get back here and prove himself while also keeping any negative, dark clouds over it as far from the team as possible. It's not like a holdout over a contract when GMs and coaches trot out the "He's falling behind and we only talk about the guys who are here" stuff. He couldn't be here. It wasn't voluntary for him to miss camp.

Now, behind closed doors, I 100% guarantee Keim sees it as a problem and is worried about how Abraham will perform.

I have a lot of respect for BA as a person and coach. His comments regarding DWash and Abraham have been very different. He said DWash was walking a thin line and that it throws red flags up for the organization, while respecting Abraham's privacy in the media. Granted, the two instances are different, but I think the main difference is that Abraham voluntarily (as far as we know) sought some type of treatment while we still haven't heard much, if anything, from DWash regarding his issues. I personally think DWI is a much worse crime than smoking pot, but it shows that if you handle it in the correct way that BA will have your back. On a much less important note, depending on how you want to look at it, I think it also sends a strong message to the ballclub and the players on it.
