ACC adding Big East's Syracuse, Pitt

Pittsburgh and Syracuse, once flagship programs of the Big East, have been accepted as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, extending the league's current membership to 14 schools, the ACC announced on Sunday morning.

The exact date for the move remains uncertain, as Big East bylaws require schools to pay a $5 million exit fee and give 27 months notice before leaving. ACC commissioner John Swofford said the league "fully respects" the bylaws of the Big East, but Pitt chancellor Mark Nordenberg said the Big East provides options for withdrawal.

Up next U So Florida ( would be the 3rd defection for Big East) and U Central Florida, which would kill the Big East. Wonder how TCU feels now? This could create a domino effect and cause WVU to bolt.

WVU is going SEC. Same with Missouri. TCU is going to either have to tuck tail and return to the MWC or form some other conference with whoever is left after this all shakes out. And even if the Big East does survive by adding the Kansas schools, Baylor, and Iowa State they won't get an automatic BCS bid.

WVU wants the SEC. Not sure the SEC wants WVU. WVU adds nothing to the SEC.

SEC/Pac-12/Big 10 will only add teams that increase the value of the TV contracts. They don't need to add schools just to add them.

U Central Florida (Orlando) is the #19 market.

FSU may end up in SEC with Clemson also.

USF is 8th largest student enrollment public institution in the coutry with over 47,000 students. That is one huge growing market of alums.

U of Central Florida is the 2nd largest public university in the country with 56,000+ students. Huge market and growing.

This will never happen, but it would be cool to have a junior conference associated with every major conference. For instance the PAC 16 could have the Mountain West as its junior conference. Each year the first place MW team would be invited to the PAC 16 while that last place PAC 16 team would have to move down to the junior conference. Scheduling and division inequity would obviously cause a huge problem, but it would keep everyone on their toes and give a realistic chance for the have-nots. Again, this will never happen.

The Big 12, Big 10, PAC 12, SEC, BE, and ACC currently account for 66 football programs, 67 if you include Notre Dame as the only legitimate independent. As Wally pointed out, under the 4 super conference realignment plan, there will be 64 football programs represented. Not a big deal when you are talking about Baylor and two other likely Big East or Big 12 schools not making the cut.

I don't see why you would be opposed to the extremely unrealistic junior conference system that I dreamed up. Boise State would quickly find themselves in the PAC 12/16 under this scenario and other have-nots could earn their way into a BCS conference.

lets make it easier, just replace washington state with Boise and save the trouble of implementing your system!
