MUSKOGEE — The Ada High School golf team opened its 2025 season with a solid fifth-place showing at the rugged Clasds 5A State Tournament Preview Monday at the Muskogee Country Club.
Carl Albert won the event with a team score of 296 and Bishop Kelley was runner-up at 304. Bishop McGuinness finished third at 311 and Tahlequah edged Ada for fourth place. The Tigers shot a team score of 334 and Ada followed at 336.
Collinsville and Chickasha tied for sixth with identical scores of 342.
“I am pretty happy with the result of today’s play. We let a few holes get away from us a little bit, but a score of 336 on a course we have not seen before was pretty good,” Ada boys golf coach Robbie Powell told The Ada News. “We can definitely play better, but a Top 5 finish is a good start to the season.”
Brock Jerman of Chickasha won the medalist crown with a 69. Ryan McClanahan of Bishop McGuinness also shot a 69 but lost in a scorecard playoff.
Ada sophomore Drake Kanuch was one shot off the mark, firing a score of 70. He tied for third with Keegan Westlake of Carl Albert who also shot a 70.”
“Drake played well as he always does. But I feel like he should have won the tournament,” Powell said. “He had (4) bogeys and missed winning the tournament by one stroke.”
Ada junior Couper Taylor-Rogers cracked the Top 20 — finishing in the No. 20 spot with a score of 81.
Sophomore Kash Taylor-Rogers was next at 88. Braxton Holloway shot a 97 for Ada and Kale Fuller finished with an even 100 score.
The Cougars are back in action April 3 at the The Duncan Invitational hosted by The Duncan Golf & Tennis Club.
