It looks like the Rangers are about to receive a big boost.
Defenseman Adam Fox has officially been activated off injured reserve and is “trending towards” returning to the lineup for Saturday’s meeting with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night, head coach Peter Laviolette said.
Fox has missed the last eight games with an upper-body injury after an open-ice collision during a game last month against the Islanders -- New York said he'd be sidelined for some time, but they expected him to return down the stretch.
The 27-year-old was back at practice for the beginning of the road trip donning a green non-contact jersey -- but he was officially able to shed that and had no limitations during Saturday’s morning skate.
This is perfect timing for the Blueshirts as their matchup with Columbus has high playoff implications with the two sides remaining tied with 70 points for the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference with just 16 games to play.
New York, of course, was tromped 7-3 by this same team on home ice last week.
Fox has had a bit of an up-and-down campaign thus far, but he was enjoying a strong stretch of hockey before the injury, recording eight points (two goals, six assists) over his last seven games.
It still remains to be seen who he would pair up with since his usual partner Ryan Lindgren was shipped out of town ahead of the trade deadline, but the All-Star playmaker was back quarterbacking the top power-play unit, as expected.
Nothing is official yet, but recently acquired defenseman Carson Soucy appears to be the odd man out.
