Ideally, if the Jacksonville Jaguars want to have the opportunity to land top prospect Travis Hunter, two quarterbacks have to be taken in the top three.
However, based on what Adam Schefter is hearing, that is appearing to be even less likely.
“It certainly feels like the Cleveland Browns are inclined to look elsewhere, aside from quarterback,” said Adam Schefter on this week’s edition of the Adam Schefter Podcast via Jaguars on Sports Illustrated. “And it's starting to feel like the New York Giants at No. 3 are starting to look elsewhere other than quarterback.
“So, if the Browns don't take Shedeur Sanders at 2, and if the Giants don't take Shedeur Sanders at 3, and that is the feel that I'm getting recently, where is Shedeur Sanders going?”
If we assume that Cam Ward is going to the Tennessee Titans at No. 1 overall, and then neither Cleveland nor the New York Giants are going to take a quarterback, we can make an educated guess that, in some order, Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter will be taken at picks two and three.
At pick No. 4, the Patriots obviously have their quarterback already in Drake Maye, so they could go offensive tackle or even take Mason Graham.
With the fifth overall pick, even if things play out this way, it's not as if the Jaguars are in a bad spot. With offensive tackle being the more pressing need for the Patriots, the Jaguars very well could have the opportunity to take Graham, or one of the top tackles in Will Campbell or Armand Membou--whoever the Patriots don't take--or even wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan. Trading down could also be in play as well.
But if you're holding out hope that Carter or Hunter would somehow be on the board for the Jaguars, at least based on what Schefter is hearing, that sounds like it could be less likely.
