Jurecki mentioned Green had something up his sleeve. Maybe just maybe the Cards are trying to sign Ogunleye. The Dolphins are at the ceiling of the cap and can't touch the contract someone like the Cardinals could throw at Ogunleye. The price for him is too steep (1st-pick 3 and 3rd-pick 67). The Cardinals could split the difference and offer their 2004 number 2 (33rd overall) and their 2005 number 2 for Adewale Ogunleye. Nobody likes to trade draft choices, but Arizona will not draft a better pass rusher than him at 33. The Dolphins don't have a second round choice in this year's draft traded to the Patriots and in the 2005 that pick was recently dealt to the Eagles for Feeley. The trade makes sense for both teams and the compensation is acceptable. His 15 sacks would certainly be nice especially if Berry is signed and Pace, Johnson, and King continue to develop.

Or if you cant get a trade just give him the 1 and 3 maybe get them to toss in Madison. You have your CB and DE and can cherry pick the best leftovers or late cuts in the NFL.

The Dolphins have ALL the leverage in this situation though. There would be no reason for them to comprimise or throw in madison. All they have to do is decline to match, and collect the 1st and 3rd.

You may be right but today the Titans traded McCairens to the Jets for a number 2. He was a restricted free agent with a first round tender. The teams can talk and agree to compensation. The Dolphins could resign him to a one-year contract and lose him next year with no compensation.

Ogunlye might be worth a 1 and 3 that was my point. He is that good!

As for Madison I was suggesting we add some more to the deal and get them both

If we give up #33, then you HAVE to work it to get Madison, since #33 SHOULD be a CB pick because we NEED one. Badly. It is the weakest position on the team, tightly contested by pass-rushing DE.

I want to keep the #33 since this year that #33 is a 1st Round Pick.

Madison is probably going to be released anyway I was thinking more along the lines of #1 #3 and #4 or #5.

If you give up the #1 pick you need to keep that #2 pick because of the added players in the draft this year it means you still get a first round pick (albeit "late" first round).

I'm glad you used the "might"......it gives you wiggle room to respond when people like me say that he is absolutely NO WAY worth a #3 and a #67.......and if we trade away the #3 for anything other than Randy Moss, I'll be furious and convinced that Graves is nuts!

You know the Cardinals could still come out o.k. with a little imagination (I know that never happens). Try to work out a deal for Ogunleye with the Dolphins. I like the swap of two seconds for his signing rights. Arizona committs themselves to still sign another corner (Macklin), a pass rusher (Berry), a backup QB (probably King), an offensive lineman (maybe O'Hara) and a pass catching back (Jamel White). The Cardinals recoup the traded second by dealing with the Browns swapping firsts and getting their second in return (number 38). At number 7 the Cardinals could add Mike Williams, Roy Williams, Kellen Winslow or maybe even Sean Taylor. In round two they could add another defensive back like Ohio State's Chris Gamble or one of the many stud defensive tackles in the draft Sopaga (Hawaii), Olshansky (Oregon) or Siavii (Oregon).

As I see the FA period so far, is that we are backed into a corner. The top level DE's are gone. They were not going to come here anyway, so we are left with Berry. He sounds like a definate upgrade over what we have now. If we could swing a deal for the Ogunleye for two seconds. One this year, one next, I would do that in a heartbeat. Or do a 1/3 for Ogunleye and Madison, and now your talking. We still need a stud at DT to help Wendell. If we miss on Berry, and O, this offseason will be a disaster. Lets hope what ever Green has up his sleeve is worth it.
