That seemed almost a given. It was a roll of the dice that just didn't pan out. Moving right along...

New staff will want to put their stamp on the team and bring in their guys. I anticipate major changes---as was discussed on another thread, this is a rebuild and not a retool.

The roster churn that SK conducted at the bottom of the roster and the practice squad will extend up to the starters.

If the Cards are going all in on a Cousins signing, they will need major trimming of the cap and the release of a lot of starter salary. As we near that March 14 FA period, look for more players to get their pink slip.

Look for Cardinals to add Jamal Charles as the backup

This makes no sense. AP was on a cheap deal and would have been a great one two punch with DJ. We will see who they bring in to replace him. Every time a new coaching staff comes in they get rid of 90% of the roster within two years.

what makes no sense is taking the best player on the team... maybe the game offensively off the field for a backup running back who's time has passed, doesn't play special teams... while already having a solid, cheap #2 rb who does play ST.

According to some people it means our entire team and management is inept and hopeless.

hyperbole alert!

I know nuance isn't your strong suit, but it shouldn't be surprising coming from a guy who regularly defended women beaters like Daryl Washington like you were so fond of doing.

AP was cheap and DJ does need a break here and there. If DJ gets hurt again I would feel a lot better having AP ready to step in.

I was supportive of signing him for the season when DJ went down but there is no way AP's ego would allow him to play second fiddle to DJ, though DJ is clearly now the better back. AP would have been a distraction and a possible malcontent which has a enough star power to split the locker room when you start bringing young guys in who might worship him. They already have Kerwynn Williams who has proven he can perform and set a great example of playing his ass off... despite injuries or a big time pedigree!

SW's number one goal is 'physicality.' AP certainly played with vicious intent even at his advanced playing age.

The money at the QB position is currently manageable. Does cutting AP mean the Cards are going to sign DJ to an expensive contract extension?

Is AP being let go because he is not proficient in the passing game---compared to DJ? Cards triedm a few times to get him into the passing game and I recall a few misses to his credit.

How does AP rate as a pass protector? Believe he was in pass protection when Palmer went down with his broken arm.

AP would want to compete for the starting job which is how it should be for anyone on the roster. As Jetstream indicated, he might be a distraction if he or others in the locker room openly advocates to be the starter.

And then again, it could just be all about the cap space. KW played with intensity---a member of the Honey Badger gang---and the new staff see him as a cheap and good RB backup.

I thought AP might stay on the team just because he and Fitz are close friends. This move shows that no one is safe. Good sign that the team is willing to make the changes necessary to move forward. AP benefited greatly from his short time here - IMHO - and showed enough is left in the tank for another team to add him to their roster.

This team has too many holes to fill to waste 2.8 million on a breather back. We have Kerwynn for that, cheaper and he plays special teams.

And would AP maybe be better than Kerwynn if DJ went down? Possibly, but either way, the offense would be screwed.

And there’s no way AP wouldn’t make waves being a breather back. Not to mention, he’s a back who gets going the more carries he gets. We saw how good he was as after thought in NO. Why you’d want to duplicate that scenario is beyond me.

and lets not eliminate the probability of drafting yet another RB in the fifth round or so.... Elijah Pennys brother can likely be had in the fifth...
the kid has potential... normally I wouldnt draft like that except....his brother is on the team and also plays RB..

do you have any brothers?? The competition is fierce... drafting baby Penny will make both of them better
my baby bro likes to fish... but I am a bit more skilled at it. That dude made me sit out on that boat for 10 hours in the cold until he caught a fish bigger than mine

yeah..drafting baby Penny could be good for the club

It would be shocking if he weren't cut. Let's face it - he was brought in as the #1 back with both DJ & Logan being on IR, and nobody else showing much at that point. With DJ coming back and no reason not to believe he'll be as good as ever - it's not like he blew out a knee of something - and Logan coming back as well, AND the emergence of Kerwynn Williams late in the year - why the hell would anyone keep an aging and slowing AP?
