So is Williams the best player to ever where a Cardinals jersey?

He certainly has to be since the team moved to Arizona and quite possibly ever. The two other names historically that jump out at me are Dan Dierdorf and Dick "Night Train" Lane. Lane retired when my dad was kid and Dierdorf retired when I was two so Williams is definitely the best Cardinal, I've seen.

I will be wearing my Aeneas jersey to Cardinals Stadium on November 10!

Nice choice. Definitely deserving.

They do.

You will never see another 40 for example.

We don't retire our numbers?

I think 40 is an exception.

Roger Wehrli and Emmitt Smith were both 22.

Roy Green and Anquan Boldin wear 81.

That is the whole point of the ring of honor, which is basically a rip off of Dallas.

You're right. We have 5 retired numbers: 40 (Tillman, 1998-2001), 8 (Larry Wilson, 1960-1972), 77 (Stan Mauldin, 1946-1948), 88 (J.V. Cain, 1974-1979), 99 (Marshall Goldberg, 1939-1943, 1946-1948)

Three of the five numbers were retired after players died (Tillman overseas, Mauldin from a heart attack after a game, Cain heart failure in training camp on his birthday). Only Wilson and Goldberg were alive when their jerseys were retired and both were eligible for HOF, Wilson was elected, Goldberg was a finalist for 2008 from the Seniors Committee.

I think Larry Wilson was better than Aeneas and Roy Green would certainly merit consideration. It's really hard to compare different positions on a football team and come up with the best overall player.

Larry Wilson is Mr. Cardinal!!! With nearly 40 years of service as a player, coach, scout and GM he will always be remembered as the best to every don a red uniform as of today.

Wilson was a hell of a player looking at his stats and career highlights. I obviously never saw him play but 8 PB/8 All Pro selections has to be a great player. Plus a member of 2 all decade teams.
