The Celtics can begin talking to free agents next Thursday, and according to league sources they will be ringing up Etan Thomas, Adonal Foyle and Antonio McDyess in search of talented size - all three in the 6-foot-10 range.

The C's won't be able to get any of the above signed until July 15, but two agents said yesterday the club is already gathering information on potential recruits.

Isn't it hilarious that DANNY AINGE of all people is gonna try to convince McDyess to come there?

I seriously hope that those teams aren't considering to pay the MLE for Dice. It seems like just about any team has an interesst in him.

Also probably means that Etan Thomas and Adonal Foyle are going to require MLE type of money. In that case I would much rather have Thomas than Foyle.

Younger, bigger and better.

I keep telling you guys that Antonio McDyess is going to get around the mid-level exception from somebody even if it is only for a few years. He isn't going to play for the minimum or something like that like some of you keep assuming.

I like Foyle, but I agree that Thomas is much more worth the money. I have a hard time believing Foyle will get as much as those other guys though.

I'd prefer Mark Blount out of all of those. Though if they are trying to shore up size, they may not let him go.

He averaged 10.3 ppg & 7.20 rpg last season, and slightly over 1 block per game.

I can't get anybody interested in Blount. He put up very good numbers the last three months of the season, but his crime is that he isn't young enough. Okur is young, he can't play, but he IS young.

Dice's agent has been great at getting his name mentioned by every team that has even the slightest need for a big man. He has not been able to get anyone to say they are willing to go for him if he isn't cheap. After the Mourning fiasco last year, a lot of teams are reluctant to pay much for a guy with a history of serious injuries.

I would not be surprised if the Suns have been working on something with Dice. I doubt that D'Antoni's comment about wanting to resign Dice was just his opinion.

If he is going to move, I think that he owes us the opportunity to sign and trade him. Burn us once shame on you, burn us twice shame on us.

I don't see how signing him and trading him helps us any, since we are already under the cap. That is unless the team that he goes to wants to give up someone that we really want (and would give up some of that precious cap space for if he were available).

That is exactly what I am saying, if there is a team that wants him and it's a place that he wants to go and a player that we want, then convince him on a sign and trade. We did him two big favors by giving him a chance to play with Kidd and get to the playoffs and by getting him out of NY.

I don't feel like looking it up right now. To do that I think we would have to hold on to McDyess' rights then sign and trade him. But what would happen if we held on to his rights then the trade fell through? The Phoenix Suns would be stuck with virtually no room under the salary cap to work with until they found a team to sign and trade.

And what team would offer a player in a sign and trade that is better than McDyess or a FA replacement?

Sign and trades are for teams over the cap not under.

I can't really see a situation where it makes sense.
