spanky keeps bringing this up. I think the guy sucks, and would rather have Parsons and McCown. spanky wants to bring him in for $2 mil bonus and $1 mil per season (more money than McCown makes). What do you think?

I think spanky is high.
Forget about AJ Feeley. He's no better than McCown, IMO.

Dont mind k9, he could be allergic to qb's that win.

Bad idea, cant afford him for the role he would play.
Plus, maybe it is just me, but I imagine he will want to go to a team that actually gives him a chance to start

Spanky, why do you feel Feeley is better than McCown?

kerouac9,
I believe that we need a FA QB on the roster in the event that McCown gets injured.....that's all. Without this type of back up, we are very exposed with Parsons as the only choice. Feeley is available and at a price that is more cap friendly than Blake's package was. If you have a better candidate in mind I'd be happy to hear your point of view.
I did not come up with the $2MM salary and $1MM bonus idea. That what was provided as an estimate in The Huddle Report by Aaron Freeman, who recently had a summary of the approximate and or likely packages it would take to sign various FA's.
Listen....I've gone on record a dozen times or more as saying that McCown is our guy. I believe this to the point of excluding any thoughts about Manning and Roesthlisberger as potential picks with our #3. As to what role Parsons ends up playing, I advocate that Feeley is only a possibility to compete for the #2 position on the depth chart....that's all.
Please be more accurate when you say things like "spanky wants to".....
So now........who do YOU think we should target a a replacement for Blake as a QB with some veteran experience?

Every offseason his name comes up.
Every year it seems he is on a different team.
Every year you never hear his name during the regular season.

Finally, someone that has understood what I was trying to say and has responded with something to think about......that being that Feeley will likely only go to a team if he's got a ggod chance to start and that as a back-up, his numbers are too rich.
LVCARDFREAK.....do you have any thoughts as to who might fill the profile of a vet who won't freeze like a deer in the headlights if they have to come in to replace McCown in the event of an injury?
IF a vet comes in it will be for league mimimum and that will only cost us 500K or so on the cap. So stop trying to make believe that cutting Blake and eating his bonus is going to cost us. We saved money and headache by cutting his sorry arse.Originally posted by LVCARDFREAK
No I really dont and that is what bother me about cutting Blake. You certainly wont get a backup as good as he has been over his career, and now QB becomes a need position that this team HAS to fill.
I think you will probably see a "Clip board holder' type guy come in
Some names out there that might not cost that much:
Doug Johnson
Shaun King
Jonathan Quinn
Ty Detmer
Scott Covington
No one to get too excited about. Remember if you pay this guy more than $1million it will turn into a net loss for the season. And none of these guys are as good as Blake

Yeah, well we will disagree then, but I will trust In Dennis Green and his decesion making. And maybe 5 yrs with McCown (we already have him for 2) will be alot better then NEVER with Jeff BlakeOriginally posted by LVCARDFREAK
WOW Great arguement! Won me over...
I dont really have anymore to say that I havent already. You like the move, which is fine, and I wont be able to persuade you otherwise.
I am just glad you are keeping pace with the 5 year program as that is how long it will take to win with the trio of McCown, Parsons, and Dave Brown jr as the QB's

I thought you had nothing more to say on this. And I thought your point was that Blake should continue to take snaps from a young QB that we have to bring along. Blake would not have added anything to his development and he could be a detriment. Dennis Green has spelled it out for you....Blakes attitude and his inconsistant play last year made this an easy decision. A coachable backup will be added who has value.....its not that hard.Originally posted by LVCARDFREAK
Apparently you miss the point. Keep Blake as the veteren backup (which the Cards will now have to address anyway) cut Parsons and draft a FRANCHISE QB.
No one is saying ride Blake to the Superbowl.

Are there only a few of us who understand the possibility that "Leon" Blake doesn't want to be a backup. I assume that is why he didn't take a paycut and remain in Baltimore. For "Leon" to be part of this team next year, he would need a personality transplant and take a major pay cut. This is a 4 win team, who aren't going to get appreciably better by keeping Blake. Blake had his chance last year and obviously didn't do things that Green translates into reasons for keeping him. In the words of Ken Hawk Harrelson, " HE GONE ".
I doubt if the Cardinals go past the FA period and Draft weekend without picking up at least 1 QB. They need 4 qbs to get through mini camps and pre season. Where these 4 guys end up depends on performance. There is no way I see Mc Cowns #1 status etched in stone. I like the guy , but if something better comes along so be it.
P.S. Maybe Josh is the next Marc Bulger, but I sure hope he gets on some Ritalin. That boy gets too excited.
