Hawk is definitely the SILB. The WILB is still on the field in nickel (and most) dime situations. Barnett plays next to him and is like 235, whereas Hawk is right around 250.

He was playing WILB for the Packers. Nick Barnett is an every down player for them--but they don't exactly run the same system as we do. It's just that Barnett is a super-active player in coverage, pass rush, and run support. Barnett was an MLB in their 4-3 and I he still plays on the right side (from the QB's perspective) in their 3-4.

Nick Barnett is 10x the player that A.J. Hawk is. And there's also this:

The Packers didn’t ask Hawk to take a pay cut despite his $4.623 million salary this season. Hawk has one more year remaining on his contract and with a base salary of $10 million for 2011, it’s unlikely that he will be back with the Packers next season, at least not at that price. Getting another team to take on Hawk’s contract in a trade might be tough, but there are ways for an interested team to restructure the deal

http://packersnews.greenbaypressgaz...seeks-more-action-is-open-to-trade-agent-says

I wouldn't give up even a 4th round pick for a busted Top 10 draft pick who is essentially a two-down guy.

4th round picks are lucky to be special teamers. To say you wouldn't give up a 4th rounder for a guy who has shown to be a starter in the NFL is pretty dumb in my mind. Who said they thought Reggie Walker was better :doi: ? Mid season trades almost never happen so it's a moot point anyway.

Really???

Greg Toler 4th rounder and starter
Hyphen 7th rounder and 3rd down RB

Tim Hightower 5h rounder and Starter at RB
Brandon Keith 7th rounder and Starter at RT

Steve Breaston 5th rounder and Starter at WR

Gabe Watson 4th rounder and rotational NT

Antonio Smith 5th rounder and Starter at DE

For a guy who can't start for his own team and is getting $10 million next year and has never gone to a Pro Bowl?

Honestly, I'm not sure if A.J. Hawk can even play special teams. He's no better than Gerald Hayes, but he's making twice as much this year and five times more next year.

I know that he's your boy, but his job got taken by Brandon Chillar last year, and a 2007 6th round pick in Desmond Bishop. At least Brady Quinn's sister is taken care of, I guess.

Should be looking for a CB to replace Money Mike Adams instead.

There's a reason why a 5th overall linebacker didn't play a snap Sunday. He sucks, especially in the 3-4.

AJ Hawk while a good SILB overall is horrible in space. Maybe he can find a team who plays a 4-3 with a poor Mike and he can take that job. With the amount of teams that are using 3x1 and 4 wide personnel you better be able to cover or you won't be playing much.

Oddly enough while he never saw the field on D he was in every single special teams snap in the game. Had one tackle as well.

That is what the guy has been relegated to - special teams. Coach doesn't trust him in the nickel and Dime packages and in today's pass first NFL the two down LB isn't exactly the most sought after LB these days.

I did. Tell us, oh great and powerful OZ, how a 1st round bust who hasn't played a snap this year, is our savior.

:mulli:
Has Reggie Walker ever even played a snap in the NFL, other than pre-season? Where did i say he was our savior? I said I would take him for a 4th round pick and that he's better than Reggie Walker could ever be.

Paris Lenon has been terrible hs whole career and now people think he's a good LB on the Cards, although i'm by no means sold on him. AJ Hawk has alot more talent, you don't think there's a chance he could turn his career around? It's all about getting into the right situation. Calvin Pace was complete bust until he showed a hint of promise his last year and now people would love to have him back.

So you're saying rookies , without ever playing a down in the NFL, get huge contracts and some don't live up to them. There's some groundbreaking news. Hawk was progressing just fine until Dom Capers came aboard. He wasn't a pro bowler but was a solid starter. According to some being a pro-bowler is no big deal. Rolle was a pro-bowler but he was supposedly a horrible player for the Cards. Maybe Hawk needs a change of scenery. People sure were on the Kerry Rhodes is great, he just didn't get along with his new coach, bandwagon. Why could it not be the same case with Hawk? I don't know if Hawk would be any good in Arizona ,or not, but basing his production on a top 10 rookie contract is hardly the way to judge a player. If you're going to do that about 90% of the top 10 are busts.

LOL when will teams learn???

Laurinaitis, who I thought would stink, had a very nice rookie year and looks to be a pretty good to above average LB. If you remeber I said to stay away from Carpeter because of PED's. Katzenmoyer, a bust . I gues if you want to call a career ending neck injury being abust then go ahead. The guy was starting as a rookie for Belichick when he suffered his neck injury. I guess he should have just toughed it out to avoid the bust label . Talk about being mis-informed or just plain not knowing what you're talking about. But then again some people consider Ki-Jana Carter and Andre Wadsworth busts. I consider them high draft picks that got their career ended before it started because of injury and it didn't pan out. But to each his own. I guess those guys should have just played through it, rub some dirt on it and get back in there.

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that I'm not going to pay $14 million for the next two years (plus extension) for a guy who isn't a playmaker. The Cards have shown that they're not going to pay that money for a guy who IS a playmaker in Karlos Dansby.

Hawk didn't live up to his draft status. Okay. But that's what he's being paid for, and you'd get equivalent production (1 special teams tackle) from a 4th round pick.

Otherwise, if I were a 4-3 team looking for a Jonathan Vilma-type reclamation project (although Hawk was never even as good as Vilma), if he'll reduce his contract to a minimum salary plus incentives, then he might be a good deal for a 4th round pick. But at this contract, on this team? No way.

I'd agree with that. Sometimes guys just get placed in a scheme that doesn't fit their talents. We saw that with Calvin Pace who was a bust as a 4-3 DE but started to shine when moved to 3-4 OLB. Same thing with Branch. Struggled as a NT and turned things around when moved to DE.

A.J. Hawk reminds me of a player that I really like: Hunter Hillenmeyer of the Bears. Downhill runner and tackler, can fill in in the middle if you need him to, solid guy.

At $2 million per season Hawk is a solid value. He's just as good as--maybe a little better than--Gerald Hayes. But he hasn't developed as many thought he would, and he's just not a playmaker.

He'd look good as a Jaguar or even as a Ram. But I don't think he's a fit here.

Hawk had over 300 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 3 interceptions and 2 FFs his first 3 years so he obviously has some skills. But you are right. Doesn't appear to be a good fit for the Cards defense.

A.J. Hawk is a scrub. Give me a break, guys. You saw him twice in two weeks last season. Did he make any plays? At all? Brandon Chillar took his job.

Scrub?

I have a hard time associating that term with anyone who has managed to reach the NFL.

I get what you're saying, but every level has it's own scrubs. It's a relative term.

A scrub on a texas HS football team is going to be an all-star on a pop warner team from alaska.

backup and special teams. How did St.Pierre last 7-8 years?
Larry Izzo is LB that's also been around awhile and stinks as a LB but great special teams.

Don't forget playing on crummy teams. Look how long Wrong Gap McKinnon played for Arizona. The last 4 teams Lenon was on were a combined 12-52 and finished DAL in both points allowed and yards allowed in 2007 and 2008 and 31/29th in 2009.

So much hate for Lenon. I love his instincts and discipline which are far better than Dansby's ever were though he lacks the physical traits. I'd definately say he's better than a guy who can't even crack the LB rotation on his team. AJ Hawk is soft and definately a bust. Anybody remember the playoff game where he was constantly missing tackles?
