In another thread, Cheesebeef mentioned the term "Lang Bang" speaking of Al's name for Andrew Lang dunks in the early 90's. I thought it would be interesting to develop a thread that lists as many of these as possible, especially the old-time ones--play by play comments or nicknames. Things like

Hearbreak Hotel.
Johnny High Floor Score.
The Hawk Swoops.
Alvin Scott the Needle
The Flying Dutchman (Dick VanArsdale)

OOOOHHHHH BROTHER!

A hoop-dee-doo for two!(my favorite)

Shuzam! (for 3 point bombs)

Doom boom (a weak version of Lang Bang - Al stretching a little to thin here)

Wham-BAm-SLAM!

Doe she still say all those?

After not listening to a Suns radio broadcast in over 5 years, I listened to one via the internet a couple of months ago. I have to say, not having 'What a shot, Whataburger!' after Shazzam is just plain wrong!!

Living in the Los Angeles area, I'm ashamed to admit that I'd forgotten how much fun it is to listen to McCoy. If the Suns get deep in the playoffs, I'll have to figure out how to get the KTAR radio feed out here, so that I can listen to that instead of the TV coverage.

He has been relegated to radio. With Tim Kempton or Vinny Del Negro no less.

We get Tom Leander with EJ or Majerle on the TV. :|

Don't forget Gary Bender........I'd take Al McCoy over him in a second. Al's broadcasting style is really built for radio because he actually does play-by-play and talks about every pass and play that's made during the game. I don't know how he can keep up with the current Suns when they score so quickly though.

all those calls make me remember being a wee lad, sitting in the back of dad's silver coupe d'ville on the way back from a family dinner, almost nodding off while sinking down into the plush burgundy velvet seats listening to the suns game on the radio turned down low so as not to offend my mother and hearing the occasional frustrated hiss outta pops' nose as the suns screwed something up . . . it was all mccoy, all the time . . .

I am sure McCoy's broadcasting choice is his own. He is getting up there in age.

From time to time, I still yell out "What A Shot! Whataburger sends $50 to Suns' charities." Even if Al doesn't.

I think the call for a three is sponsored by AutoZone now anyway.

"In the Zone with AutoZone" this year.

During a game, or just at other random moments in your life? I can imagine some fairly hilarious settings for shouting that out.

Looks good.. IS good!

I remember watching some of the first simulcasts and being quite disappointed to realize that he said "looks good" after the make.

KJ "stops on a dime" "stops and pops from 15"

He also made a living complaining about the zone defense "the rule that no one really understands."
