Give the Cardinals there due. They do some things right sometimes.

David Carter is the NFL draft Gods giving us some love after scorching us with Alan Branch.

I was a HUGE supporter when the Cardinals chose Alan Branch in the draft. Big, quick, strong, a perfect NT. I thought the Cardinals found there NT for then next 10 years. Uh... I was wrong, and the Cardinals were wrong. Big Time. The lazy, fat arse, starter doing the Haynesworth shuffle. "I don't like NT, I wanna play DE." Plus being fat, out of shape, non-commited for 3 years didn't help. Whiz kept on looking the "the switch" to turn on. Well, it is still flicking, and is probably turned off in Seattle now that he has more money.

Screw Branch.

Davide Carter. Ahhh. Say it again. David Carter.

Drafted as a DE, took any position that would get him on the field. Saw the opportunity that our entitled (I have no competition on paper) 1st round NT left out for anyone to take in camp, and bit into that opportunity and has not let go.

Haters talk about Carter's size, and technique. The kid played DE in college, had no idea where he was going after college, and probably the last thing he thought is he would be NT anywhere. Kid has been a NT, and training as a NT for 60 days, and is pushing our starting NT already. I made the mistake once, looking at Alan Branch's measurables, and that back fired like a Elmer Fudd shogun. NT takes size no doubt, but it takes want, desire, nastiness, a good motor, and most importantly a TEAM MINDSET. And Carter has those qualities (enter "moxie" comment here)

Let him bulk up, let him learn technique. Then lets see how easily he is moved from his spot.

And if it wasn't great that he is playing NT, and producing at NT for us, he played a heck of a lot of DE for the Caridnals last night.

Dan Williams NT
David Carter NT/DE
Nick Eason DE/NT

Game on. Our DL is set IMO. Thanks to a flippin' good roll of the dice, and a good piece of luck in finding one David Carter.

Let the haters hate.

So now we're supposed to buy what your selling with Carter?

:D

We have our NT finally. A real 3-4 NT not a 4-3 DT trying to hang in as a NT. Dan Williams.

Carter, Holliday, Eason are all examples of what looks like a new attitude on the D. The grizzled veteran Holliday was schooling the Broncos youngsters. It was fun to watch our D actually play with some enthusiasm, gang tackling, hitting people....

Hmmmm....Adrian Wilson wasn't playing??? :p

I'm hoping you are right...but don't forget he's going against 2nd and 3rd string guys...NOT STARTERS!!!

That's how everyone fell in love with Max Hall....he was great against 2nd and 3rd string players...but when the real boys came to play....he sucked bad....same thing happened with Stevie Williams...couldn't handle real CB's (but he looks better now)

caution along this path of Carter

Even with Kolb on the roster, David Carter was easily the biggest, (and most pleasant), surprise to me this off season. He not only pushes our #1 NT, but he is the perfect compliment to our DE's and their backup, Nick Eason. I like our 'D' line a lot, (and until Dan Williams plays himself into shape, he just might be the weakest link on the line). I think that leaves us in real good shape. Some decent talent and experience, a lot of want to, and a lot of motor on that line now, top to bottom. That bodes well for us IMO.

Williams was good till he caught that shot to the back. He's seemed timid ever since to me...

You couldn't be more wrong. Dan Williams ability to hold the middle of the Defense has been evident from Day 1. That makes everyone better. There are no weak links on our Dline. It is the strength of the defense.

Like him alot.

May be a budding Jay Ratliff and if the case doesn't need to bulk up, but simply work on techniques.

yeah I think Dan is one of those guys who can play 10 years on sheer ability to eat up space.

He should have played more last year, I know stamina and all but he's very good at what he does, it's not his fault there weren't/aren't more pass rushers on the squad around him.

This.

That game last night was beyond meaningless. Scrub-on-scrub action. Nobody of any significance played for more than 5 minutes. Beware the next Ernest Shazor/Max Hall/etc.

Except that some of our takes are based on the play in all 4 pre season games not just last night.

Carter for instance also played well against San Diego last week.

As for last night I'm still excited that our scrubs finally hammered Denver's scrubs. It was getting old losing to Denver 38-10 every time we played them pre season or regular season. Cool to finally kick them a couple of times in a row.

Yep and I agree with your OP. I'm not as down on Branch as you but agree that I'd much rather have Carter and his attitude over Branch's.

Agree with all of this and especially the bolded part.

I agree but wouldn't be suprised if he added some muscle weight adding to his overall bulk.

Yep, YEp, YEP.

I don't want to go overboard but the Jets don't have a top notch pass rusher and yet get it done. As I add to our "If and Hope pages of the Cards book" (great phrasing from a post of yours on a different thread) we need to hope Jefferson & Peterson play well for our D to get in the same zip code as the Jets D. As Mitch, I am impressed with the development of our DB's under Horton so as the season progresses we could be please with our D.
