I still can't believe that I saw Living Colour open up for The Rolling Stones during their "Steel Wheels" tour circa '89-'90....Obviously during that time, Living Colour immediately became popular with their first 2 singles off of their debut album "Vivid" with "Cult of Personality" and "Glamour Boys"....
Unfortunately, they since have never been able to duplicate the success of both their songs, however, their following releases "Times Up" and "Stain" were solid...Just didnt have that "hit single" or generate much airplay.....
They did take an extensive hiatus from recording w/each other (nearly 10-years) when they decided to reunite to record "Collideøscope"....Did they generate much deserved recognition for this very dynamic/compelling album? No...they didnt....although...they really deserved it....
"Collideøscope" mostly dealt with social and political issues...especially regarding the events of and following 9/11.... In fact, "Flying" really depicted The World Trade Center's destruction with such riveting lyrics:
My favorite song (and Ive been listening to it nonstop) is "Great Expectation"... What makes that song "stand-out" is Corey Glover's very distinct voice and introspective/sophisticated lyrics..and the interplay with Vernon Reid's lead-guitar and Doug Wimbishs' bass.... Also, Will Calhoun with his steady drumming anchors that and every other song brilliantly.....
What I also love about this album is how Living Colour also incorporated blues, reggae, and soul along with their trademark heavy metal sound.....Also, their covers of AC/DC "Back In Black" and The Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows" were both flawlessy executed....
Vernon Reid as always is stellar, and the rest of the band definitely followed suit....Can't wait to see what the future holds for Living Colour......

Never in my life have I felt a heat so hot/I had to get out."
