Just thought you might to learn a little more about this guy. DX had him ranked the 31st prospect in this draft. So for those who thought we should have taken Reed later, just pretend we took Peters at 21 and Reed at 54 and you have a draft with no stretches.

You Should Hope Your NBA Team Drafts Valparaiso's Alec Peters

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-your-nba-team-drafts-valparaisos-alec-peters

Seems like a Teletovic/Jon Leuer type of player.

Some quotes from the article:
"Day one, he's one of the best shooters in the NBA," the Western Conference scout said.

Watched Peters highlights from the game Carolina mentions. Lesser competition and all that, but Peters looked very good. Playing within himself, seeing the floor, making the right pass, at ease shooting from distance and on the move, rebounding in some traffic. Not athletic but moves smoothly and seems to be in the right place. Swatted away a lay-in attempt by a guard, who imprudently challenged him. If all of this translates to the big stage, he'll push Len into oblivion... I know, I know, it's a gentle shove.

Peters should eventually find a role in the NBA as a role player with his shooting skills. I'm not sure his best opportunity will be with the Suns especially with all their future picks. However, I like his potential.
So we should toss aside a good role player in lieu of "all of their future picks". This team is already overloaded with inexperienced hopefuls. And the solution is to keep hoping for more? I see no skill in stocking a roster that way.

I didn't say that BC. Only pointing out Peter's best opportunity to play may not be with the Suns. I suspect the Suns will be reworking their roster with trades, the draft and perhaps free agency. Alan Williams found a spot on the Suns roster so who knows.

Wasn't sure where I should post this and didn't want to start a new thread, figured bumping the post about him being drafted is better than any of the current top threads.

Peters has signed a one year deal with CSKA Moscow, which I believe is part of the Turkish Airline Euroleague.

I'm not sure when their season takes place and if he'd be available to return to the NBA before the end of the season but the chances of him being signed to anything more than a Two-Way deal were pretty slim. The Suns still have 1 Two-Way contract available for next season and now that Peters won't be taking that spot they can look to fill that with someone else.

Here is a link about it also, no more info than what I posted above. It is just a 1 year deal.

CSKA Moscow plays in Euroleague, among other leagues, so the timeline of his season should be similar to the timeline of Luka Doncic last year. That means he is gone. He's already listed on their roster:

I'm okay with this. He looked fantastic in the last game of the season and solid in Summer League, but there just wasn't really a spot for him and he doesn't provide much of anything beyond shooting. This also, as you mentioned, opens up another spot for a two-way contract. It probably makes sense to look at developmental point guards so if you get really lucky, it could help the team this year.

I was thinking Peters was the odd man out. It's just a numbers thing because he may still have a productive NBA career. Actually this experience might help him.

Sometimes I wonder where PH finds this stuff. :wink2:

The freed up two-way contract is really the most important part of this. Peters was probably going to get that if he stuck around but it's not a real loss to see him go. Sometimes it doesn't work out. If he were stronger and had more of a hustling rebound sort of game like Cooley I could see him getting a chance somewhere in the NBA but he's only a shooter now, as you mentioned and a player with his size only offering that isn't enough to get him by. He's only a decent shooter also, good for a big, but average when compared to wings and guards.

I think they'll keep that Two-Way spot open for training camp. If any of the invitees can show something, that gives them a chance with the team. Being able to offer that might help them bring in some better quality players also. I could see fringe players gravitating towards teams that have spots open that they can be rewarded with if they're playing really well but the Suns didn't have that available. So really they only had the chance to offer them spots on the G-League with a possibility of being brought up later if a spot becomes available. That's not very inviting, IMO.

Last year Canaan was originally brought in on a Two-Way deal that was switched to a real contract after a week when we waived Mike James. Two-Way deals are sort of like Ten-Day contracts for teams before they can offer Ten-Day deals. Those can't be given out until January though and require a roster spot. There's more freedom on a Two-Way deal. Of course the player needs to show a little more to get one but the pay is better is better and so is the opportunity.

It's a combo of Twitter, Reddit, and Facebook. Social media is good for news if you vet it some. When it comes to sports news though there isn't a fake news problem, yet, there are a lot of rumors to sift through though.

It's a good find PH. I'm not into Facebook or Reddit much... mainly follow twitter.

Do the Suns retain his rights at all? I really like Peters. He was an EXCELLENT shooter in college and I believe will be in his pro career once his role settles.

I don't think they do since he was under contract last year and now he's leaving overseas. They may have the ability to make him a restricted free agent but I think that depends on the contract he signed last season.

Triano didn't play Peters as much as he should ha should have. I'd take him over either Bender or Chriss. He is a bit too passive but if he'd have gotten some serious minutes that would probably would have gone away - he's not Benderesque.

I think Alec Peters is better than current Ryan Anderson and just crazy that one has to play in Europe while the other is making $20M/yr for a top 4 team in the league.
