Alex Ovechkin's chase for the NHL goal-scoring record is down to four more goals.
The Washington Capitals star scored his 891st career goal on Tuesday and is playing at the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night in his bid to pass Wayne Gretzky's 894, a record once thought unbreakable. Counting this game, he has eight games left in the regular season.
Ovechkin has 38 goals this season at age 39, including three in his last four games. He scored once against Carolina earlier this season.
The game is also important in the standings because a victory would move the Capitals closer to clinching the Metropolitan Division title. Washington also would move into the top spot in the NHL with a victory.
