49ers | A. Smith throwing interceptions in practice
Sun, 30 Jul 2006 10:05:19 -0700

Roger Phillips, of Inside Bay Area, reports San Francisco 49ers QB Alex D. Smith threw several interceptions during practice Saturday, July 29, after throwing roughly another five in practice Friday, July 28. Head coach Mike Nolan does not believe Smith is struggling with his timing and said, "I don't think it was off when he threw three touchdown passes. On some interceptions, I say to Alex, 'That was a bad choice.' On others, I say, 'Alex, you've got to stick it in there, you've got to learn.'"

I have never had a good feeling about Smith having a lot of success in the NFL. Better for San Fran to have him, than us. I hope he goes for 5 picks in week 1.

You guys are way off Alex Smith is the second coming of Joe Montana. It's not that he's perhaps the most overated number 1 pick ever, maybe the 49er defence is that good.

I love to get the Niner fans up here all riled up at the sports bar in town. I start bad mouthing Smith and they get pretty huffy fast. It's fun. On Friday I started talking about how he has tiny hands and can't really throw the ball well because of it. Poor Niner fans. Dumb luck getting the #1 pick in a year where there were no good #1 choices.

Here is debate...where would Smith have gone in the 2006 Draft? I find it hard to believe he would have been drafted before Cutler at 11.

Well, yeah, except he isn't screaming at people and trying to punch teammates.

If Smith went in last April's draft the Donkey's would have never traded up for Cutler. I could see them taking Smith over Cutler so I would have to believe he would be drafted somewhere in the teens ..

does that mean that a.rogers would have gone in rd2? that wouldnt be that much of a drop from where he went to gb but considering he was once considered to be the niners #1 overall pick it really says something about the qbs in that draft

Probrably not. If the Packers didn't have Rogers on their roster, then they would have drafted Leinart at #5.

The Wár Room had an article before the draft saying Smith would only be ranked as the 4th QB (Way behind Young and Leinart, and just behind Cutler), if he had waited one year to turn pro.

alex smith did the right thing by coming out early last season. he cashed in and wears that just pumped the neighbor cat smirk on his face. i just hope smith and gilmore start for the 49ers this season. that should be an easy win for the cardinals if that happens. 24 million in gaunrteed money. that has to suck for the 49ers.

Here's the worst part . . . it was an offense only practice. ;)

I don't think Smith goes ahead of Cutler, but it's easy to say that now that Smith struggled as a rookie.
