Smith's speed does translate to the field, but he has to get some room to get to full speed. We were able to see it in PS. Ellington has much better change of direction and acceleration though.

Was it Alfonso Smith's scintillating 3.8 YPC in the preseason that impressed you about his top-end speed, or his longest run of 17 yards?

Or maybe it was his two receptions for 15 yards.

Is there an outlandish statement about a fringe Cardinal player that you WON'T make?

some people keep bringing up Smith speed, but I have literally NEVER seen it in a game. hell, I'd never even heard about it before this off-season when suddenly Wolfley started crowing about it, seemingly making others follow him.

I'm not a fan of A. Smith. I would prefer to see rookies Taylor and Ellington get playing time behind Mendenhall.

There was a huge dropoff from Mendenhall to Smith in St. Louis. Mendenhall was bursting through holes and sliding/falling for postivie yardage.

Smith was trying to get back to the line of scrimmage nearly every run.

I think Arians likes him because of his pass protection. I think that translates more toward the fact that Smith is prone to run right into what ever is in front of him, and is not because because he is such a great blocker. The kid virtually has no vision of the field as a RB. He had three huge holes to run through Sunday, just adjacent to the place he ran to, but failed to see any of them. He continues to run straight to where the play is designed to go, (right into the pile), instead of looking for daylight. That is what makes him a good pass blocker-----he runs into whatever is in front of him.

Michael Pittman the second. Just run in a straight line until you run into something. Though I doubt Al will ever catch 73 passes in a season.

I mentioned it in an earlier thread, but there was (at least) one play in the second half where if Smith would have taken one step to the left, he was clear for 15-20 yds. if not more. Instead, he runs directly into the pile o' blockers. So frustrating to watch.

Hmmm... Still don't know why RW would be listed at #2 though, when he was lsited as #5 last week??
Guess we'll know soon enough!

RW was listed as #2 last week and was inactive. Urbans comment was that the new depth chart has him listed as #5.
