Tim Burton to Direct Alice in Wonderland
Source: Variety
November 16, 2007

Tim Burton is set to direct Alice in Wonderland, which will combine performance-capture imagery, currently seen in Beowulf, with live-action footage.

The script by Linda Woolverton (The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast) is based on the Lewis Carroll classic.

Apparently it's supposed to be the "Hook" version of Alice. My boss was working on a competing Alice (more of a live-action faithful rendition of the story) project with Fox 2000 and the John Davis Company. I've heard the script is decent, but I wasn't a big Hook fan.

By "Hook" do you mean the Robin Williams/Dustin Hoffman movie that took on the Peter Pan story?

Any chance of Scarlett Johannson playing the lead?

A man can dream, can't he?

I will pass, thank you much. Depp is good, but he is getting into a very boring groove.
I'll probably rent it, because if there are two stories out there that are tailor made for Burton it's this and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (but frankly I think he missed the mark on that one). I think Burton is WAY overrated in general, though.

The only time I really felt that he made something beautiful was Big Fish.

Big Fish was good. I liked Edward Scissor Hands too, and I loved Nightmare Before Christmas. Corpse Bride was only 'meh'. I can't remember at the moment what else he's done, although Charlie and the Chocolate Factory SUCKED.

Pee Wee's Big Adventure and Beetlejuice were GREAT, and Mars Attacks! was underrated. Edward Scissorhands was terrific and the 1st 2 Batman movies were great eye candy. He's really only had one major misstep in his entire career, and that was Planet of the Apes. Even Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Sleepy Hollow were at least watchable.

Only good Burton movies are Beetlejuice and Sleepy Hollow. Everything else is completely overrated. JMHO.

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory was flat out terrible.

Did you even SEE Planet of the Apes. I think it's funny that you all are slamming Charlie and don't even mention Planet of the Apes.

And who overrates Pee Wee's Big Adventure? And Batman Returns?
