I voted for Stockton....only because every team on the planet knew what Stockton and Malone were going to do every single game and couldn't do anything about it. It was unreal watching the two of them force their will on that pick and roll. It's hard to believe that they at least didn't get one title.

My second one would probably be Kevin Johnson. I think those two players played on both sides and that's why I can't say Nash. I thought Nash's defense was huge hindrance.

to be fair, KJ wasn't any great shakes as a defender either. But I'd probably put KJ (in his prime) over Nash as well, by just a hair.

That has to be a joke. What did Mark Jackson ever do, besides figure out a way to hang around forever? There's no way you'd pick Jackson over Johnson if you were try to assemble a great team.

Wow, I can't slip anything in here... too smart of an audience. Yeah, that was a joke. I get sick and tired of people bringing him up as 'greatest PG' just because he is on the all-time list for assists.

However, Gary Payton is not on that list... unless he one a ring when he bounced around in the end... I can't remember.

Who is the best point guard never to win an NBA championship? I'll do the other positions as I get around to them.

Here is another spin. We should do this exact same thing but for biggest busts at their position.

Here is an online article from bleacherreport.com in 2013 selecting the 25 best players to never win an NBA championship.

It took them only six choices to cover all five positions.

1. Elgin Baylor .........SF
2. Carl Malone .........PF
3. Charles Barkley ....PF
4. John Stockton ......PG
5. Patrick Ewing .......C
6. Allen Iverson .......SG/PG

So, they chose Baylor, Malone, Stockton, Ewing and Iverson as the top 5 by position.

Although they chose Barkely as the 3rd best overall, Malone beat him by position.

That's being generous. Steve averaged less than 1 steal per game while KJ around 1.5. KJ also broke into the top 10 a couple times in steals per season. He was also a slightly better defensive rebounder. Steve was a bottom feeder several times in defensive per.

However, none of that that is the main reason. This doesn't show up on stats but for a huge chunk of Nash's career his coaches protected him on defense by switching up matchups, using zone, double teaming Nash's guy all to hide him defensively. That trait was synonymous with Nash and hurt teams by having to use crazy defensive matchups or constantly collapsing in the paint when Nash lost his man.

KJ? They let him play his man 1 on 1 most of his career. Hell they even tried putting him on Jordan one time. Coaches didn't design entire defensive schemes around KJ's defensive shortcomings.

I DON'T think KJ was a great defender by any stretch but nowhere near as bad as Nash. KJ was probably an average defender who at times played very good defense. Nash was a bad defender who occasional played average defense.
