Surely you jest. RHCP sold out HUGE, YEARS ago. That whole under the bridge fiasco, when Ric Rubin convinced Anthony Keidis he could sing? BLECH! T RHCP's used to be punk as f*ck, even with the crazy funk rap thing going. Yeah, all bands get old, and slow down, but this happened WAY before that, and they write nothing but it-all-sounds-the-same adult comtemporary alternative whiny crap now.

Man, I'd give my left nut for them to release an album that had HALF the intesity of Uplift **** party plan again.
I wouldn't necessarily classify the direction that RHCP took as selling-out, however, they were forced to "reinvent" themselves after the death of Hillel and Iron's abrupt departure from the group.... That forced them to compromise their sound to a certain extent to complement both Frusciante and Smith's sound which is similar to what the Rolling Stones had to do when Brian Jones died and Mick Taylor replaced him.....

Selling-out to me is a band who immediately shuns their legion of fans for commercial gain or like in Metallica's case....they realize their fanbase "shrivelling" (in their case they needed to combat the Grunge movement), so they "do away" with their really innovative sound to gain some of the "mainstream" audience....I wouldnt say RHCP did that whatsoever because they still maintain some of their "funk roots/punk elements", but I would concede that their last 3 albums have been more commercial......
