Retired guard Allan Houston was not part of the draft workout, but he might be part of the Suns' plans. Houston has been a recent regular for workouts at US Airways Center.

Houston, who retired in 2005 because of knee problems, visited Suns forward and former teammate Grant Hill in April to see what the Suns' acclaimed athletic trainers did for him and others with tough health histories.

Houston considered joining the Suns when he made a brief comeback last October that ended after one preseason game with the New York Knicks. In April, the Suns saw him as a possibility for 2008-09.
Houston averaged 17.3 points per game over 12 seasons.

Allan Houston's last year was 2004-05 when he played only 20 games and in 2003-04 when he played 50 games. His last full season was 2002-03. For his caree, Houston shot 44.4% from the field and 40.2% for three for 17.3 ppg.

I don't know if Houston was much of a defender when he was healthy. He was a great shooter in his day, but I'm not sure if he'd be any help if he can't move very well.

Looks like Kerr is fixin' to field a kick-ass wheelchair basketball team.

This isn't the first time he's worked out for the Suns. Kind of strange, but I agree he can't be much worse than Pike. I just don't understand they why behind it.

Allan Houston, although last year said he wanted to try a comeback, isn't and wasn't necessarily here for a try-out. If you keep up with him AT ALL, then you will know that he is here working with our training staff (the Nelsons) to work on his body, ala Shaq's hip, and Amare's knees. The Suns training staff is the best in the NBA if not in all of professional sports. I honestly think they work with a lot of professional athletes, especially basketball players, in the off-seasons.

While if they signed him I wouldn't expect much, but I doubt he's forgotten how to shoot the basketball. With Shaq on the floor, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a few spot up shooters on the outside.

One of the odd things about the Suns deep bench is that we really don't know if Marks and Pike are useless just because D'Antoni didn't let them play. Our tendency is to assume D'Antoni knew what he was doing in not playing those two, but then assume he's otherwise an idiot in saying they were pretty good on defense.

I don't expect Pike to return and I'd be surprised if the Suns sign Houston unless he has some incredible recovery.

That said, the Suns training staff keeps me from makine hard conclusions. Clearly after saving Dice's career and doing a good job on Amare, the Suns trainers have a reputation miracles. None of us expected that much from Hill and he had a pretty good year: 70 games, 31.6 minutes, 13.1 ppg, 50.3%, 5.0 rpg, and 2.9 assists. What the stats don't say is that he played very well on defense.

My quesition is whether Houston was every much of a defender. He doesn't need to be great, but at least as good as Finley. Otherwise, I don't see the point.

I would hate the Houston deal because of what it would signify, there would definitely be a lot of media interest, stories and a presser, this is what Sarver wants, relevancy and hype. I said in another thread what old washed up former super star will the suns bring in next? I didn't even think of Alan Houston, but now that I think see it, I think it makes perfect sense with the current vision for this team. Completely washed up player that the Suns can tout as the next rez project for our staff and just the fact that he was a former Knick ensures several major stories, remember a lot of Suns fans were Knick fans at some point. These guys are good at selling I will definitely give them that.

It's not even close between Finley and Houston. I haven't seen Houston play in years, and I do I see Finley out there killing the Suns every year. Finley wins, Houston fails.

I swear if we are going Houston why not try for Reggie Miller? $$$ that's why. Houston will come cheap and will get almost as much preseason hype.

He got cut from the KNICKS this season.

Discussion over.

Wrong, the Suns have built up enough good publicity with their miracle staff that the fans would believe them if they wanted to give Conrad Dobbler a shot at ball. "With our methods we could fix Alan's issues, rebuild his core." Next. This would not be a basketball move at all, it would be a farce.
