Ray Allen?

He played 20 games! And the Sonics aren't playing any better with him probably even worse. 4-6 in the last 10 just like the Suns and over the short time Ray isn't playing better than Joe Johnson.

Michael Finley also averaged 20/5/3 over the last 2 month at 46% from the 3.

How Allen makes it over Steve Nash and Andre Miller is beyond me.
Andrei Kirilenko is a little bit weird selection too. He is definately not better than Shawn Marion but I guess he makes it because Utah as a team is such a surprise right now.

Andre Miller is a black hole. But Allen over Nash or Finley or even Gary Payton is a travesty.

He's not because of the "rules" the NBA puts on--they had to vote on a center, and the choice was pretty much Magloire or Ilgauskus. That spot effectively took away the spot for Lebron.

But he and Melo will be on the same team in the rookie game.

I really can't believe they put Ray Allen on the team after playing so few games this season. It's not as if Seattle is tearing up the NBA with him. The other problem is that the fans voted Steve Francis into the game when he should not be there.

Same thing is true in the Eastern conference. I have no problem with the players that the coaches chose. The one guard I would take off the Eastern team in favor of LeBron James is Vince Carter.

The all star team is about how big a name the player is, not how good the player is. Ray Allen was on the all star team before, so he gets on based on how he played in the past.

What should be developed is a REAL all star team based on how the player and his team is doing this year. Any suggestions?

Get rid of the fan votes and have a commitee of say a few coaches, players, media and some HOF'ers to select a team.Because the All-star game is now who has the biggest name, not who is having a better year.

The reserves are almost always acceptable, since they are voted by the coaches. The Ray Allen mishap is hard to explain, but he has been playing phenominal. The LBJ problem is caused by the fan votes.

Like Marc Stein always brings up, the game is for the fans. The system we have now is as good as you can get. The fans pick the starters, and the coaches have a chance to pick up their reserves.

The only solution I could offer is do without the position requirements. In the East, it causes a lot of problems. Maybe allow the center position to be filled by a forward.

so how competitive is LeBron.

How about he gets all fired up and, just to prove everyone wrong, takes his team to the playoffs--knocking the Knicks out of the 8th spot in the East.

This would give the Suns something like the 6th, 8th and 14th picks.

You'd hope they could get one really good player with that assortment.

It hadn't registered yet that there will likely be a big discrepancy between the New York Knicks lottery pick and that pick if they make the playoffs. I hope they flop big-time wild teams like Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers have a strong second half of the season.

There are 6 teams that all have a legit shot at the last 3 spots in the east.

The Suns are currently 5th worst. That's a lot of ping pong balls! Descent shot at one of the top 3 picks.

It's not that long a shot that the Suns could have a top 3 pick #7 and #14. That's a lot of bagaining chips.

They could use the top 3 pick and trade the other 2 to a really bad team for next years 1rst pick. Or trade the 2 picks for a really good young player that some other bad team is ready to give up on sort of like the Brand trade.

We'll be extremely lucky if the Knicks pick is better than 10.

I think it will either be 7, 8 or 14, 15 because of the weakness in the east.

So by this you are assuming that Cleveland will make the playoffs and New York won't? What do you base that assumption on? True, the Cavs are playing better and are a few games out of the 8th spot. But the Knicks are already at #7.

If the Knicks don't make the playoffs it means they had to slip a bit. I don't think there will be 9 teams with a worse record if that happens. If they make the playoffs they will have the worst record of any playoff team.

This is just my opinion of course.

Look at how many teams there are with 20, 21 or 22 wins.
There are only 6 teams with less than 20 wins.
