Heard on 1060 that Alomar was traded for cash considerations and the dreaded player to be named later.

Yeah the waiver thing is kinda weak IMO...I hear one of baseballs "unwritten" rules is to not interfere with a waiver trade between two teams...kinda like it'll come back to haunt you in the future....

Yeah the players to be named later always suck.

Sincerely,
David Ortiz

PS - I'm not insinuating we'll get a player of Ortiz's caliber just that we may get lucky if our scouting department has an eye for a diamond in the rough. Most likely we'll end up with a scrub but it's better than the nothing we'd get for Alomar this winter.

Well I'm happy for Alomar if he gets to play and get his 3,000th hit.

I inserted dreaded because we will have to wait and see who that player is instead of finding out now.

There you have it, the state of your 2004 D'Backs. Getting cash was they key to this deal.

Meh, I dont mind giving him up. Wish we got a name as opposed to PTBNL but oh well. I wish they had tried the Alomar at 2nd and Hairston in LF thing first though, as Alomar was really starting to hit well for us.

Being a long time , avid, White Sox fan I am disgusted by this trade. Diamondback fans should be ecstatic. You got rid of an over the hill, injured, malcontent.

Ken " Band Aid " Williams loves to give up good young minor league players for washed up players in his " win it now " mentality. Take it from me, the dreaded Player to be Named Later, will be decent.

Wally, correct me if I'm wrong, but over the past two years on two seperate occasions, hasn't Ken Williams has traded a large amount of prospects for old, rentals Carl Everett and Roberto Alomar?

Don't worry if I was a southsider I'd be pissed off too considering my GM is in a large market and has considerably more money to deal with and is annually outmanuevered, outdrafted, and outscouted by the small market Indians and Twins. At least you guys get to watch the Cubs choke.

actually the player to be named later is not to bad. what thet do is agree on players that might be included in the deal. so the d backs get to scout these players for the rest of the year or however long, then they choose the player who they feel is the best fit for their orginazation at that time. so they already have been narrowed down to a few players who they like already.of course the white-sox have already agreed to the players the dbacks want.

No need to correct you Mao. Band Aid Kenny has given away most of the minor league system for these 2 clowns. He acquired Everett last year from Texas for 3 minor league players , that Texas was allowed to handpick from most of the Sox system. Last year, he picked up Alomar from the Mets for 3 players, 2 of whom were, very high prospects in the Sox System and another lower level prospect. He wanted those players so badly he gutted the system. The Sox ended up tanking the rest of the year and Alomar and Everett opted out for free agancy. The Sox got nothing for that. Now he acquires Everett again from Montreal for 3 more players. Everett has cost the Sox 6 players in 2 years. Now he acquires Alomar again, and those 2 transactions cost 4 players and cash. BTW, both players are coming off of injuries. I'd rather have Joe, Jr.

"Traded for cash" is one of those phrases that bugs me.

I would subscribe to the first publication to say "was sold" instead of that stupid phrase.

Saying a player was "sold" to another team is not very PC.

Alomar doesn't have much trade value but he has even less value to the Dbacks who are in full rebuild mode.

What really gets me is the Dbacks trying to convince everybody that they will be contenders again next year.

They're the worst team in baseball and are looking to dump big payroll this off season.

Am I the only one who thinks that may not be a good formula for sucess?

Rumor has it that they have changed that strategy since they received a whole bunch of investment money this past offseason. If true, they are expected to keep their payroll at around the same level they have this year (approx $75 million).

You never know....we could actually get Roberto Alomar as the PTBNL....That happened in 1987 when the Tigers acquired Dickie Noles from the Chicago Cubs, and as a condition was sent back there after the end of the season....
Anyways, enough on trivial facts....

The player the Dbacks may get back in exchange could be contingent on how well Alomar performs for the White Sox down the stretch...If they actually somehow manage to advance into the post season (if Alomar factors in significantly), then they might get a better prospect in exchange....Otherwise, it will be some lower tier one......

Another possibility is that the player could have been drafted by the White Sox last year, but isnt eligible to be dealt until a year after he's been signed...That happened when in the 3-way deal involving Jeff Weaver that the Tigers managed to obtain Jeremy Bonderman.......

I'm glad they made this deal since obviously Hairston factors into their long-term plans and Kata will return back next season, and he's definitely fully capable of spelling Hairston at 2nd base as part of his "ultra utility" role that he will carry......

Hairston's obviously got some talent but he's got to be one of the most immature big leaugers I've ever seen.

How many signs has he missed this season.

The last time he left Finley hangin' out to dry on a hit and run I thought he might get killed.

I sure hope he gets his head screwed on right.

Maybe he has ADD. :D

Word to that Wally! Though he has been hitting pretty well for the D-Bax since coming off the injury. The Sox offered him more $$$ in Spring to stay there & he decided to come to Arizona. I hope Roberto burns a few more bridges in his quest for 3000 hits & ends up at around 2995, Good Riddance!!!
