I guess maybe it's a combination of BOTH dislike for the Steelers and a new-found respect for the Cards. There are thousands of comments about the poor officiating and about 80-90 % felt that the refs clearly favored the Steelers and missed alot of calls deliberately. The Steeler fans for the most part responded that everyone was just a bunch of cry-babies and they WON. SIX-PACK! End of story! I'm sure the Cards players are talking to each other about it but they seem to be keeping their comments in-house and that's good. ...And if they did say anything they would face the wrath of the NFL gods. KA-CHING! $$ Anyways, I know this doesn't really make any of us feel any better but all those years where the Cards got hosed call after call and no one noticed, well, this time on a national-stage they noticed. Where there's smoke there's fire.

Officiating in pro sports needs to be re-evaluated. These guys are just too fast for those few officials to keep track of. I don't think a full time booth ref is the answer as much as putting more refs on the field may help.

I agree...not only more refs...how about a few refs younger than Matlock?

Well first of all they're all part time, they don't play a long enough season to have full time refs but they do have the money for that so I say scrap the current system, train up a full time crew that only does this and get on with it.

Also a large percentage I think are lawyers.... not that there is anything wrong with that...:(

The problem with officiating is that its subjective.
If the refs called every penalty anywhere that was on the field with review on every one a game would be like 4 hours long excluding the commercial breaks.
Some penalties can't even be reviewed if the ref blows the whistle.

However we did get hosed! Sometimes nice guys don't always win.

First off, I'm glad that the Cards are not saying anything. It's not going to change anything, other than make them look bad. Glad they're taking the high road.

Second, as far as the dislike for the Steelers, keep in mind that everybody loves the underdog and roots for David to beat Goliath. In most cities in any given year the fans most popular player is the backup QB. We love for a newcomer to defeat the incumbent, and then bash him as soon as he takes office. Rocky, Rudy, and Hoosiers are some of the most popular movies of all time.

Third, once we build David up, we can't wait to tear him down. The Patriots were loved across America when they beat the Rams, and two years later people were saying they were sick of them winning all the time and hoping they would lose.

Fourth, people who post on message boards (self included) or call in to sports talk radio shows are not average fans; they're extremists. They're probably more prone to believe the refs were paid off, the NFL hates them, the networks don't want them, and also become distraught when their team loses. Now have an extreme fan of another team proclaim themselves to be the best ever, and said fan becomes defensive, jealous and envious. The call in shows are flooded, the message boards get tons of comments, and the espn's of the world just got richer.

My biggest problem with that certain segment of Steeler fan - beyond the fact that I found so many of them arrogant and full of themselves even before Sunday's win - is that they tend to be hypocrites. They'll call out Cardinal boards for their treatment of a Steeler fan, yet have zero tolerance for a Cards fan - while claiming they would never ban a visitor just hours after doing exactly that. And they're awfully quick to point they're fingers at others for whining; yet it has been Steeler fans - and players - who continue to whine far more than any others, even to this day, about spygate. Their double standard is both disturbing and laughable.

I think the love lost for the Patriots had more to with spy-gate then the fact that they were winning.

And I don't really buy that non Steelers fans HATE them because they win SB's but more so because their last two SB wins were greatly aided by BS biased officiating.

Good post, and you are correct, even down to the hypocrisy of many of the Steeler fans. I will agree with you 100% there. In all fairness, regarding spygate, Pittsburgh was potentially the most wronged team during those years, but again many of the fans don't recognize within themselves the same traits they chastise in others.
