Stoudemire, Cabarkapa Activated for Friday Night’s Kings Game
Posted: Jan. 9, 2004
The Phoenix Suns today activated forwards Amaré Stoudemire and rookie Zarko Cabarkapa, who had missed a combined 40 games this season. Both will be in uniform beginning with tonight’s game against the Kings at 8:30 p.m. at America West Arena.
Stoudemire, who missed 18 games after suffering a grade three left ankle sprain at Boston on Dec. 5, was averaging 15.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.72 blocks prior to his injury in 18 contests. Phoenix went 4-14 (.222) without last season’s NBA Rookie of the Year in the lineup.
Cabarkapa, the Suns’ first-round selection (17th overall) in the 2003 NBA Draft, missed the last 22 games after suffering a right wrist fracture when Mavericks forward/center Danny Fortson committed a flagrant foul, penalty two on his dunk attempt with 2:58 left in the fourth quarter on Nov. 26. The Suns went 5-17 (.227) since he was placed on the injured list on Nov. 28.
Maciej Lampe (MAH-chick LOMP-ay), who was acquired Monday in an eight-player trade with New York, was placed on the injured list with back spasms. The 18-year-old forward/center has yet to make his regular season debut this season after the Knicks placed him on the injured list with shin splints on Oct. 27.
Tonight’s game will be televised locally on Fox Sports Net Arizona and nationally on ESPN.
