From the recap on Suns.com:
http://www.nba.com/games/20031205/PHOBOS/recap.html

Stoudemire sprained his left ankle after landing on Paul Pierce's foot with 3:20 left in the second quarter and the Celtics ahead, 51-31. Last season's Rookie of the Year, Stoudemire was helped off the court, taken to a hospital and did not return.

X-rays were negative, but Stoudemire will return to Phoenix and miss the final three contests of the Suns' four-game road trip.

So does this mean Tom Gugliotta in the starting lineup or do we go with Williams at C and either Jahidi or Jake at PF?

From now on, let's all refer to this as the play where Pierce "fouled" Stoudemire.

Did you see that on ESPN.com? They talked about Pierce's injury last season and said it was one Amare Stoudemire "fouled Paul Pierce".

Please.

At least our small ball lineup now includes a center. I am alot more comfortable with that.

pg Steph
sg Penny/CJake
sf Shawn
pf JJ
c Jake/Jahidi

As much as I dislike small ball, I'd rather see JJ start at pf than Googs.

We'll probably see alot of variations of this. Its OK at this point because of injuries to Amare and Zarko.

Yes, I agree completely. It's one thing to seek out opportunities to go small when good alternatives exist, but if all of your "bigs" are either injured or incompetent, it can be the best choice.

Why not play Jahidi and Voshkul? Or Williams and Voshkul?

Because I don't think the Suns can afford to have two non-scorers on the floor at the same time.

Yep. Plus, none of those three have the combo of size and SPEED to guard K-Mart for any duration.

JJ AT PF

JJ is 6'8" and 235 pounds. He is only and inch short than Amare and about 10 pounds lighter. He has not really torn up the league at #2 position and Marion should focus on playing #3.

amen - I agree with both of you - keep Googs off the court - our best bet right now - for the rest of this trip is small ball - that is unless Marion actually wakes up and starts playing like an All-Star again - until that happens- we need (I can't believe I'm saying this) our small ball line-up - and it won't hurt all that much against the East.

Amare has been put on the injured list following an MRI in Phoenix. Trybanski has been activated in his place. It was retroactive to before the Nets game so he will miss at least 4 more games. Here's a link: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/127sunsonline1207.html

Bad ankle sidelines Amare

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Forward Amare Stoudemire, after a long flight delay because of brutal weather conditions on the East Coast, returned to Phoenix Saturday and underwent a magnetic resonance imaging exam on his left ankle.

But even before the news on the test was in, the Suns placed Stoudemire on the injured list before Saturday night's game in New Jersey.

He must sit out a minimum of five games, meaning the earliest the 6-10, 245-pounder can return is Dec. 14 at Sacramento. The club activated center Cezary Trybanski to replace Stoudemire on the roster.

Stoudemire rolled the ankle late in the first half of the club's game at Boston Friday night, but apparently it was already hurting.

"He said he had tweaked it earlier in the game," said Suns coach Frank Johnson. "And then he came down pretty hard. It rolled all the way over."

Trainer Aaron Nelson said the ankle was badly swollen after the game and got worse overnight.

Although there was no evidence of a fracture in the initial X-rays, Nelson wanted Dr. Tom Carter, the team physician, to have a look at Stoudemire and to have an MRI performed.

Tom Gugliotta started in Stoudemire's place against New Jersey, but Johnson said he will fill the spot based on matchups, likely using Gugliotta against big lineups and Joe Johnson against smaller teams.

Stoudemire was supposed to have his number retired at Cypress Creek High School in Olrando on the club's next stop during their four-game trip, and team President Bryan Colangelo said the team may try to work something out when the Suns play in Atlanta later this season.

I have not seen/heard about this. I've been so busy lately. From my understanding right now Amare is injured? And Its not very serious. If I am correct and hje only misses 1 weeks then the Suns are fine, but if it is 3+ weeks, then we need to trade for a cheap fill in.

They going to need help upfront from somewhere. That's for sure. I don't think they can stay in the playoff picture of Tom Gugliotta work showed Johnson's starting at power forward every night.

The Nets broadcasters said several times that Stoudemire will be out 2-3 weeks. I don't know where they got that information.

I think I heard Phoenix broadcasters say the same thing. It's probably about right if his ankle was as tender and swollen as they indicated.

The Suns cannot afford for Amare to rush his rehab. If anything, they screwed up in playing him when his ankle was already sore and weak.

We already have a fill-in. Instead of starting Scotty or Jake at Center and leaving Jahidi on the bench . . .

Move Williams into Amare's roll until he returns, and go with a Center tandem of White and Voskuhl.

Then use Marion, or Johnson, or Googs, if we must, as fill-in, not as our Power Forward's replacement.

Try to acquire someone. We need a capable backup for Amare anyway, injured or not.

I read that Chicago is trying to find takers for Marcus Fizer.
