What does wearing goggles have to do with sacrifice?
From what I heard on the interview...multiple jarring traumas (falls to the court, hits to the facial area etc.....) on the court could cause the retina to detach even if your wearing goggles. Even though the goggles could lessen damage if there was a poke to the eye.....sounds like goggles do nothing to protect against the other trauma that led to Amares retina deterioration.

Could be like Amare's karma running over his dogma. You know for what he and Nash did to Coach Porter. Amare got his first, then Nash ended up in the Barrow Burn Unit (BBU) after Suns drafty Rondo lit his rump-a-rooney afire yesterday afternoon. Sometimes deserves do have everything to do with it, Clint Eastwood notwithstanding, eh?
