Amare looks so tall compared to Boozer here.

Odom is supposed to be 6'10

Something I noticed during the Puerto Rico game was that Amare clearly had a couple of inches on Okafor judging by the height of their shoulders when they stood up during a timeout.

Scrimmage against NZ but looks like a picture from a highschool game.

Thanks for posting the pictures. It's hard to tell if the height differences are caused by the camera angles in some of those shots. For instance, Odom is 2-3 steps behind Amare or Amare isn't standing up straight. Still it looks like he may have grown an inch.

It does look like Amare is a bit bigger. If he keeps growing, he will find himself as a 5 whether he likes it or not.

Yeah I liked Marburys picture... he's thinking "yeah I've seen it all before, damn it, it sucks not having on my team anymore :( "

There was talk of that from Suns and NBA talking heads the night Amare was drafted. The thinking was he was perfect for a PF, but could potentially grow into the middle ... as much as two inches by the time he turned 22.

I really wish the NBA would have an annual measurement process like the Chicago combine. It is ridiculous using measurements that are often several years old and then guessing how much change there has been.

Back in the early 1960s Bowling Green State University recruited 6'7" forward who grew to 7'0" by the time he was a junior and they made him a center. Some guys continue growing quite a bit after they are 19. BTW, the kid's name was Nat Thurmond.

Anyone else like how New Zealand has "Burger King" across the front of their jerseys?

Too bad the USA can't get a slick sponsorship deal like that one.

The reason David Robinson went to the Naval Academy was that he was about 6'6" coming out of high school.

With his strength, height, jumping ability, he's a 5 in the Western Conference right now. It's just getting him to play the 5, that's another matter. I honestly think he would get less fouls called on him guarding the centers in the west, than all the offensive minded PFs in this conference. I swear, when you see young Wilt videos, and how powerful he was before he filled out and got even stronger, the similarity is very strong.

I'd rather see him be a dominant PF than a competent center.

Why can't he be a dominant center?

He has the size and quickness of David Robinson and there isn't another dominate center in the west.

I would agree that right now he seems a little small to play center but if he continues to fill out he'll probably be big enough next year.

It probably doesn'y really matter that much because he'll guard centers if the matchup benefits the Suns and he'll post up against other teams centers from time to time. I'd just like to know why all the big young talented players are so apposed to playing center?

Shouldn't a player just want to play the position that will give his team the best shot at winning?

When Amare's actually big enough to play center, it will be worth discussing, no question.

My problem is that the last time I saw Amare, he wasn't even close to being that big...

Point taken.

And for every guy we can name that got bigger after turing 20 there are 2 that stayed the same.

Amare Stoudemire is no bigger than 6'10" and 245 pounds. If he can throw on 15-20 pounds without losing his quickness and agility we can talk about him as a full-time center. Until then he is a starting power forward and can play center spot duty.

I think Amare wants some physical help on the inside. If the guys is a really strong PF, then Amare is a center. If he is tall, then Amare is a PF. What Amare is really talking about is where he has to play a lot of minutes with a bunch of SF's.

I think he's right.
