Amare STOUDEMIRE Has Surgery on RIGHT TOE

PHOENIX - Phoenix Suns forward Amaré Stoudemire underwent successful surgery to correct a grade one bunion on his right foot. The operation was performed today by Dr. William Hamilton in New York City.

The 6-10, 245-pounder was hampered by pain in his right big toe throughout his first season, but he overcame the minor injury to play in all 82 games and win the 2002-03 NBA Rookie of the Year award.

As a result of the procedure, Stoudemire will not participate in the Suns rookie/free agent camp or the Rocky Mountain ***** in Salt Lake during July. He is expected back on the basketball floor in early September.

The 20-year old averaged 13.5 points, 8.8 rebounds (3.0 offensive), .472 shooting from the field, 1.06 blocks, 0.76 steals and 31.3 minutes while starting 71 of the 82 games in which he played this season. He finished the season ranked seventh in the NBA in offensive rebounds, 12th in rebounds, 26th in field goal percentage and 18th in double-doubles (25). In addition, he finished ninth in the NBA Crunch Time Stat for all-around performance in the game's final two minutes and overtime.

DAMN!! now that really cuts into his time for development. he wont be able to work on his game until september unless he shoots 500 jumpers a day on one foot. well, i'm glad he's getting it taking care of early, but i hope it doesnt become shaq like. we dont need him hampered by a toe thats reoccuring during the season. i am trying to be optimistic, but this does have a bit of suckivity to it.:(

He also had Lasik eye surgery a month ago that I didn't know about.

How will the toe surgery affect his workout this offseason? It doesn't allow him to play but I'd think that he can still do shooting drills, put up some more muscle and work on his handling.

I just told a friend of mine that my father had the same surgery 20 years ago and he was back delivering mail in about a month. Now, I know that delivering mail is not the same is delivering a dunk ....but 3months????
Do you guys think that it is more than they are telling us? It surely wouldn't be the first time we were not told the full truth.

I think you answered your own question...delivering mail is NOT like playing basketball, lol.

Think about the amount of jumping and rebounding a player does in a game...how much pressure you put on your toes...

I've never seen my postman jump 3 feet high to get to my mailbox :)
