I agree with treesquid with the dirty play. Im sick of us being the "good/nice guys". We need someone to close line/punch/elbow/bitch slap manu or someone on the spurs as they've done that to us several times.. Look where they got with that.. Championship, because they played tough and hard. People were scared of them.

Suns ARE the nice/ good guys.. We all know what they say; "nice guys finish last".. So true.

I have no problem with us playing tough and hard. Intentionally trying to injure another player is a completely different story. Actually, I'd like to see a few more semi-retaliatory hard fouls. I'd be fine with putting Manu on his butt the next time he flops and flails for the refs attention. But you have to be careful with this because retaliation often leads to escalation.

Also, other teams have the "tough guy" reputation and can get away with a lot of stuff that we can't. The kind of foul I'm talking about might just be an "and 1" for San Antonio but an ejection/suspension for us. So the best time to adopt this playing style is pre-season not post-season. Unless of course this hard foul was delivered by someone like Collins.

I would love to see some role player... i.e Collins come in with an elbow to Manu's nose or fall into Duncan's knee.

Down 0-2, you know the Spurs will do something dirty game 3.

No freaking way. That would be the waking giant that would kill us. Karma is a you know what. The way that this type of actions worked for the Spurs, would serve the opposite effect for the Suns. Of this I am certain.

If karma is what you say it is, we wouldn't have been beaten by the spurs so many times in the past.

Either way, as much as I hate the Spurs, I don't want us to be dirty. We're better than that.

Nope. Doesn't work that way when you are cursed. It's like anti-karma. We need sacrifices and burnt offerings to exercise these demons....

The Phoenix crowd is wired differently than a typical NBA crowd: more urgency, more unbridled excitement, more vitriol for the refs, more hatred for their opponents, more everything. It's like a college atmosphere, only angry and more desperate. Everyone wears orange, everyone screams, everyone seems hopelessly tied to the ebb and flow of the game. When the wrong call or break goes against them, 40 years of torture quickly bubbles to the surface and every defense mechanism kicks in. It's tangible. You can feel it. They totally believe in this team ... only they totally don't. If that makes sense.

I just went to highlight that paragraph to post here and you did it already.

Completely nailed me as a Suns fan. Completely.

yup. he put us into words beautifully. Simmons may get a lot of crap for one reason or another, but no one knows FANS like he does.

True...sure he can get repetitive, and talks too much about Boston stuff, but he's still by far the best out there, and is the closest thing to hanging with your friends, and shooting the, you know what about sports.

He pretty much describes diehard Cards fans in this quote too... With a few minor tweaks.

I think you'd have to do a lot of tweaking there. I'd say Suns fans are more like Red Sox fans (pre-World Series championship) and Cards fans are closer to Cubs fans. Nah, I guess you'd need some tweaking there also.

I'm not sure there's a fair comparison to being a Cards fan. You can't even compare us to Clips fans because unlike them, we really do want to see our team win. Whether it's the "you've got a winner" Ryan era or the Coach Beige era or the "go team go" coach Mac era the kool-aiders among us still kept hoping that "this is our year". I'm not sure the Clippers fans ever truly got to live with that blessing/burden of failed dreams. But that brings me back to Cubs fans. Maybe that comparison does work.
