Just saw this movie last night...Amazing movie. Probably in my top 3 with Fight Club and Pulp Fiction. The Filmography was amazing, and the Story was great. As always Norton gives an un-believable performance. (Did you see how ripped he was? He was a skinny little dude in Fight Club) Not much else to say but i give it 5/5 definitly

Never seen it, but since you list two of my favorites as your other favorites, I will be renting it this week. I've heard a lot of good things.

Ed Norton looked like a f'n linebacker.

What a great movie. I don't know if Norton was up for any awards for it, but he should have been.

The most distrubing scene in the movie: when Norton makes the black kid "bite the curb." Man, the sound of that kid's teeth scrapping the cement is awful.

I used to show this film to my class every year when I was still a teacher. It's a great film to debate about how decisions you make can come back to haunt you, as well as how people blame others for things that happen to them.

Ugh the 'Curbing' seen was so hard to watch. I was watching it out of the corner of my eye.

I'm currently the Principal for an Media Art school in Prescott, we are accredited and serve grades 7-12. I used to teach English. I've taught 7th, 8th, 10th, and 12th graders throughout Cottonwood and Flagstaff. I only showed this film to the 10th and 12th graders.

The curb check scene was nuts, I heard of it happening when I was a kid, but if that is the way it sounds and looks, Im glad I never witnessed it in real life.

Yeah, curb stompings are gnarly. :barf:

Awesome movie though, one of my favorites.

Did you ever get around to watching it?

Not yet. It's time for me to add to my DVD collection, and I'm waiting for Kill Bill to come out as a dual pack, so I think I'll be watching it this week.

Saw this movie for the first time tonight...

Ed Norton did a fantastic job.... especially the beginning scene where he goes nuts on the 3 black guys. You could just SEE the anger in his face.

And the end scene.. wow.. that just blew me away.

Edward Norton is one of (maybe THE) best actors of his particular generation. ( I mean, really - Matt Damon? Ben Affleck? even Jude Law?)
For me, he ranks right up with Johnny Depp, Kevin Spacey, Ralph Fiennes in terms of ability to vanish into the part. (Remember when DeNiro and Dustin Hoffman used to be able to do that?) American History X is in my top 3 Disturbing/Compelling flicks.

I could not agree more. I have not seen a movie that he was in that is did not sell his part more than anyone else in the movie(I never saw rounders so if he was terrible in that one, I am sorry)

Ditto, Ditto, and Ditto again!

You walk away from this movie with the pit of your stomach turning (not from gore, but from the story). Simply put, WOW! A HUGE movie!

Johnny Depp, IMO, is not in the class with the others you mentioned.

JMHO.

Yeah, he is. (IMHO)

One thing all of the named guys have in common, apart from the ability to be the role, is they are all extremely daring and creative, and have less concern for their 'box office appeal' than for the work they do. Depp probably pushes that risk farther than any of the others, to a point that he's less careful about the projects he signs on to, I'll give you that much. He's also more an extreme-gut actor whereas the others are more cerebral-internal, if that makes any sense.

Shane, I said 'less interested' - these guys have all taken very odd indy roles at times, or played very unappealing characters, or produced and acted in their own (or friends') pretty peculiar movies, etc. In that sense, I think they are more interested in the work or art of acting than in putting forth a 'star' mega-marketable persona.
