Next Season's American Idol Schedule
Source: FOX December 20, 2005

Just when you thought you've seen everything, American Idol, the No. 1 show of last season, returns with outrageous new auditions and unbelievable talent. The search for the next singing superstar began last summer, as American Idol held auditions in San Francisco, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Denver and Greensboro. Find out who makes it to Hollywood and who is sent home as season five of American Idol premieres Tuesday, Jan. 17 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Wednesday, Jan. 18 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Episodes featuring the audition cities will air on four consecutive Tuesdays: Jan. 17 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), Jan. 24 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), Jan. 31 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) and Feb. 7 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT); and three Wednesdays: Jan. 18 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) and Feb. 1 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

Those who get past the judges move on to the Hollywood Round, which will air on Wednesday, Feb. 8 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) and Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 14 and 15 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). On Wednesday, Feb. 15, the Top 24 semifinalists – 12 males and 12 females – will be announced.

Then it will be up to America to decide who stays in the competition. The first performance show featuring the Top 12 male singers will air Tuesday, Feb. 21 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). The following night, Wednesday, Feb. 22 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), the Top 12 female singers will perform. A live results show revealing America's vote will air Thursday, Feb. 23 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), when the two male and two female performers with the fewest votes will be sent home.

For the next two weeks, the males will perform on Tuesdays, the females on Wednesdays and the live results show will air on Thursday nights. Thus, the Top 10 male singers will perform on Tuesday, Feb. 28 (8:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) and the Top 8 male singers on Tuesday, March 7 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The Top 10 female singers will perform on Wednesday, March 1 (8:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) and the Top 8 female singers battle it out on Wednesday, March 8 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). Four contestants, two males and two females, will be eliminated from the competition on the live results shows airing Thursday, March 2 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) and Thursday, March 9 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The Top 12 Finalists will be revealed on Thursday, March 9.

The competition heats up as the Top 12 Finalists take the stage for the first time together on Tuesday, March 14 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). One contestant's journey will end as America's vote is revealed on Wednesday, March 15 (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT).

Fourteen-time Emmy-nominated American Idol is created and executive-produced by Simon Fuller, founder of 19 Entertainment; and executive-produced by Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO, FremantleMedia North America, Inc.; Nigel Lythgoe, President, 19 Television; and Ken Warwick, Executive Producer, FremantleMedia North America, Inc.

I watched the show last night. The past couple of years at each audition I was able to pick out a person that went far into the contest.

The "talent" from last night was not very good at all. The best singers were the first set of twins. A lot of so-so people were let in.

But then again there a lot of people moved forward that weren't shown.

I love the city audition rounds - the people that think they can sing, but suck, the diamonds in the rough, etc. Best singers so far - the twins from Memphis.

The second twin is far better, the one who sang ain't too proud to beg. He's very, very good. When not singing though, they are freaking annoying. The Catfight chick did well also. Everyone else sucked, especially the hyper hypo dude who for God knows why got sent to Hollywood...can't sing and is a hyper dork, welcome to Hollywood! Ugh. This show has had one good season, and produced exactly two entertainers, one who can sing her ass off and one who is a circus sideshow. Kelly Clarkson is amazing, talented and cute. William Hung is just a trainwreck. That's pretty much the gist of what AI has provided us with.

I usually watch the selection process now, then tune out when the no-talent ass clowns start singing and pretending their way to winning, which I couldn't care less about since the novelty wore off in Season 1.

Plus, no show is getting 3 nights a week from me, that's just stupid.

'Idol' twins charged with forgery, theft

Associated Press

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - They sang like angels for their audition on Tuesday's 'American Idol' premiere, but a pair of Memphis twins may sound more like jailbirds by the time the show goes live from Hollywood.

Terrell Brittenum, 28, has been in jail since Jan. 10 on an outstanding warrant for charges related to the illegal purchase of a car in Rockdale County, Ga., east of Atlanta.

He and his brother, Derrell, are accused of using another man's identity to buy a 2005 Dodge Magnum in June.

Derrell was expected to turn himself in on the same charges of forgery, theft by deception and financial identity fraud, The Commercial Appeal newspaper reported.

The brothers auditioned together in September for the hit TV show 'American Idol' and impressed the show's prickly judges to continue to the next round. Segments of the show have already been recorded and will air during the next few weeks.

Fox Broadcasting Co. refused to discuss the Brittenums or their status on the show.

The return of the show Tuesday drew its best-ever season premiere ratings with 35.5 million viewers. It was a 6 percent increase over last year's debut, according to preliminary Nielsen Media Research figures.

I caught a few minutes of last night's episode while I was getting my battery replaced at Sears.

The part I saw was that Vanilla Ice lame-ass who thought he could sing and got all flustered when it was his turn. LOL

I dont think I'll be watching this season on a regular basis. I've had enough of it, watching Season 1 and 2.

And not to get all into this gender blurred lines with this kid...but the guy acted like he was so persecuted by people...how when he walks into men's rooms, they freak out.

Well, if you are going to grow your hair like a girl, and wear clothes like a girl....then you are going to have issues...

Exactly - he can wear whatever he wants, but he has to realize that he is going to confuse people.

I only watch the beginning to see people make fools of themselves. When the talent increases, my viewing decreases.

Still not sure if I really like the show or not, but I do enjoy the time the family spends together watching it....
