I do not like the Yankees as they are consistently the best in baseball or at least always in the hunt. They are also the richest by far. This is everything the Cardinals are not. We are the polar opposite. It is very easy to hate a team that can have a 250 million dollar payroll while some teams try to get bu pm $50 million. In baseball there is a direct correlation between teams in the playoffs and payroll which should surprise no one. I would suspect in the NFL that teams who consistently spend all their CAP money are consistently in the playoffs more than teams who do not.

Teams who have idiot GM's are probably at a great disadvantage for good reason.

For me it has always been the Yankees in baseball, a toss up between the Celtics and the Lakers in basketball and the Packers in football. I'm not saying I like it, it is what it is and the Cowboys are not it. I agree with this article.

I have to agree also. I'm 53 & grew up in Syracuse, NY. The Packers were great all through the 60's, when my generation was breast fed on the NFL. Even though I was always a Cardinal fan, I had a gazillion friends that were Packer fans & they still are. I'm a diehard Cardinal baseball fan, but we don't the national appeal or the money to ever overtake the Yankees as America's baseball team.

Are you from the St. Louis area? How did you become a Cardinals baseball and football fan (I thought I was the only one :D).

Cardinal baseball was terrific when the Bush family owned them. I hated it when they sold that team.

With KMOX, a big part of the Midwest had the opportunity to become Cardinal fans and I fell asleep many nights to the sounds of Harry Caray and/or Jack Buck on the radio.

I follow the Cardinal baseball team too because I became a Cardinals football fan when the franchise was in St.Louis in the late '70s so I adopted the baseball team and luved Ozzie Smith and crew. The Cardinals are professional football's oldest franchise (how many squads can have a 100 year anniversary patch on the jersey like we did in '98) which is also sad with our lack of winning till of recent in comparison to our past. The Packers have been around for decades more than the Cowboys and have won in many different eras. Again, I'm not saying I like the fact the Packers or Yankees are America's team but they truly are. In college ball it is the Fighting Irish, it just is the history of our country. As a Texas Ex I'm proud of the Longhorns tradition but it does not have the power of Notre Dame through the ages and the mystique it has to its name in our culture

take out the Yankees, and the St.Louis Cardinals would probably be America's baseball team with Red Sox fans still complaining lol

There are a lot of fans of both Cardinals teams. Others include myself, Rats, Jeff Gollin and RedRob.

Was really glad to see the Cards go back to KMOX after a couple of years on some FM station.

Used to be a blast listening to KMOX at night. There was a Spanish language station that would bleed into KMOX for years. Made for some great calls. There's a long drive to... static.. la cucaracha, lacucaracha, Maxvill has the relay... static... Asegurese de compar Corona, and we'll be right back with the wrap up after these messages.

there is no doubt, the Red Sox carry a rich tradition as well...it would be fun to see who would hold that title...the Arizona Cardinals are sort of the Chicago Cubs of football :)

Cardinal baseball was terrific when the Bush family owned them. I hated it when they sold that team.

My Dad also grew up in Syracuse, NY. Back in his day, kids had a favorite player that dictated their favorite team. Since EVERYONE in NY state was a Dimaggio fan, my Dad decided to be different & chose Stan the Man. I became a baseball Cardinal fan watching the 64 Series against the Yanks. All my uncles were Yankee fans & they tormented my Dad throughout the series. My Dad just winked at me. After the final out, I jumped off the couch & reprimanded all the Yankee fans. I hate the Yankees to this day. I still remind some of those uncles of that WS.

I actually convinced my Dad to become a St. Louis Cardinal football fan. The NFL wasn't very popular when my Dad was growing up, so he didn't have a favorite team. He actually liked the Bills of the old AFC. He told me to pick a team & that would be the team we would root for. I looked through the newspaper & realized that there was also a St. Louis Cardinal football team. I thought that was unique, so they became our team in both sports. After all the agony through the years, it was a very emotional time for my Dad & I after the NFC Championship game. Both my sons have continued the tradition of being Cardinal fans in both sports! I have a 3rd son who's special needs & doesn't understand. But I still dress him in Cardinal gear! My grandson (Justin's son) is 6 & has been a Cardinal fan since he was 2.

The Packers are my favorite team because Wisconsin is where I’m from and because I own a share of stock in the team. The Cardinals are my 2nd favorite team because Arizona is where I live now and I root for them when they are not playing the Packers. The thing that amazed me the most recently is that I have read that some Bear fans who hate the Packers have purchased stock in the team because they want the chance to own a small piece of an NFL team. I am not surprised when I heard similar statements by Colt fans who don’t have any kind of rivalry with the Packers. But I was amazed that some Bear fans who despise the Packers would want to own a share of the team.

Maybe they plan on buying enough stock to become the majority shareholder. Then they could insist that Rodgers be the water boy instead of QB whenever the Packers play the Bears.:D
