I agree that if the Suns were looking for a contract to make disappear magically, Childress would be the obvious choice. I don't know how one can argue anything else. Childress is owed almost twice as much for the duration of his contract as Warrick is. Even if one can construct reasons to prefer Childress marginally over Warrick as a presence on the roster, it's extremely unlikely that he'll be worth the extra $12 million to a rebuilding team that already has a glut of wings.

I like Chili too, but there is going to be a lot of creative writing for awhile (more than just chili) . I just wear a helmet and mouthpiece now when I read the trade posts in here...and I'm usually ok. Some of the reads will punch you right in the face with their creativity if your not careful.

Nice. 'Creative' is certainly one way to put it...

I too agree Childress' contract would be the one to waive because of financial reasons although he could well help the Suns, especially if he could play to the form he did in Atlanta. He needs to get his shooting stroke back from 3 point range to give him and the Suns another option besides scoring inside. In the 2005-06 season in Atlanta, Childress actually shot 0.492 from 3 point range.

I do think Childress is a better player than Warrick though so I would hate to give him up.

that one year was the exception to the rule.

Childress just needs to suck it up, hire a shooting coach, and change his shot. It has severly handicapped his potential as he has all the other tools to become a dynamic player. Changing his shot this late in the game won't be easy, but it can't get any worse. His highschool coach did him a huge disservice by allowing him to develop a shot like that. What is the coaching staff doing? If I were Gentry I'd demand that Childress spend the summer learning the correct way to shoot.

Well, I seem to be in the distinct minority on this but I just don't see why. To me, Childress looks like a player that could be traded without having to include much of a premium (if any) whereas we're stuck with Warrick till his contract runs out.

I prefer to keep Childress too but I can easily see why others don't. His shot was such a liability this year that it took him out of games. When Hill is gone, Childress will be needed to guard the dynamic wings in this league. If he can fix his shot, or at least make it somewhat respectable he can be a productive player for us. He already does all the little things.

It is a nasty looking shot but to be fair, he was a very effective role player in Atlanta with the same mechanics. As for the Amnesty Clause choice, maybe I'm just blinded by my hatred of Warrick. I'm (perhaps irrationally) convinced that we could have played 4 on 5 for all the moments that Hakim was on the court and not fared much worse.
