Cards trade the 2004 2nd round choice for the rights to Drew Henson, sign Henson and spend the next few months before the draft getting him ready for camp.
The Cards trade the 2004 1st round pick#3 overall to Pittsburgh for their first rounder #11, a 2nd rounder, and WR/KR Antwan Randle El. We've seen reports they're willing to move Burress and their #1 to get a QB so why not get Randle El, fill the need at PR, get a up and coming deep threat WR, and replace the 2nd we traded for Henson?
Cards then trade the #11 pick and Anthony Clement and a 3rd round to Washington for the #5 pick . At this point we have the #5 pick, Pittsburgh's 2nd rounder and no 3rd rounder(with the possibility of more depending on FA compensation for Jake and Boston).
At #5 we take Sean Taylor or Will Smith depending on who's there, 2nd rounder hope for a slide from Vasher or Batman Carroll, 3rd round best players available.
Net result, Qb of the future Drew Henson, Randle EL, Taylor or Smith, and a nice group of 1 2 and multiple 3's in the draft to load up on defense.
The only real problem in my plan is if Pittsburgh traded with San Diego to get Eli which is a real possibility if they didn't get Henson. Right now my prediction is the Saints will trade Brooks and their #1 to San Diego and then they'll take Manning. Raiders take Fitzgerald or Roy Williams at 2, Pittsburgh takes Ben at 3 with our pick, Giants take Gallery at #4, and then we take Taylor at 5 with the Redskins pick.
The Redskins motivation for trading for Clement instead of just taking Taylor themselves is they get the #11 pick and a 3rd rounder out of it. I am probably giving up too much throwing in that 3 but that's how good Taylor is, and I'm kind of banking on getting at least one compensation #3. To be honest I'm not convinced Washington would take that offer since at #11 they're not guaranteed to get Wilfork, Harris etc. If they stay pat at 5 I figure they'll take Shawn Andrews themselves and then Detroit will take Taylor at 6 which is my whole rationale for having to get back up to #5 to get Taylor. So by offering them Clement we somewhat offset them not getting Andrews making it appealing.
Net result is you come into next season with Quan, Bj and Antwan at WR, henson and McCown being groomed as Qb's of the future, and you add Taylor and hopefully a Vasher or Carroll to the secondary. Obviously you then have to decide what to do with Wilson, tender him and hope someone claims him or sign him and trade him or sign him and keep him around.
