I often do like that kind of humor! In fact, I am sometimes paid to write that kind of humor for print (i.e. go straight to silly and follow the path to absurdity). Just thought Anchorman drove right past absurd, missed the turn at nonsensical, and fell over the ledge into moronic. The few enlightened moments of comedy in that movie were incidental to the effort as a whole; when you play in the arena of absurdity you're bound to find a funny moment or two everyone can enjoy ... but it doesn't mean you've been funny for a full 90 minutes.

People in the TV news industry quote that movie often because it hits close to home for them. But it's usually people who are just like the characters in the movie. It's like Cato Kaelin quoting lines from movies in which he was satirically portrayed. At what point does the parody became sad reality?

Yea I can understand what you're saying... I guess I'm one for over the top comedy. Scenes like the network alleyway battle... the bear fight... the burrito out the window were favorites of mine

Anchorman 2

Will Ferrell made the announcement himself in-character on "Conan."

Am I the only one who thought Anchorman wasn't that funny?

Watched it again recently. And I'll admit, I thought it was much better the second time around. For whatever reason I pretty much hated it in the theater.

I think Will Ferrell movies are only good when you're with a few friends and drunk.

"Smells like Bigfoot's dick!" is still one of my favorite lines of all time. Can't wait for the sequel.

Hmm, I don't know. Anchorman is a great comedy. A bad sequel could ruin it. Eh, I'll have to see it, but it makes me nervous.

I didnt get this movie the first time.. Other than a few lines than are still repeated to this day (which really dont have anything to do with the story line).. It was pretty much a "eh, whatever" movie.. It was no where near the level of Ladies Man.. Now that movie is a classic and drops lines everywhere.. Ill probably watch this, as I do with every Will Ferrell movie.. Well after it comes on FX or something..

They said the same thing about Airplane, which actually was a great screwball comedy. I mean, Airplane 2 is the exact same movie, but still ... it didn't mess with the original. It just repeated it. Like yesterday's tuna. Can't go wrong with that.

Airplane is THE original spoof comedy. It was one of the most groundbreaking movies in history, really. And to think, before that, Leslie Nielson was a serious actor!

I would have to see Anchorman before I could get hyped up about a sequel.

...but accepted the roll in Cowboys and Aliens? YIKES! :jawdrop:

Jon Favreau, the current James Bond, a big budget and a killer title - how could he pass it up? Of course, I'd have passed on the role as soon as I heard Jon Favreau was going to direct a sci-fi, western, action flick. Well, I'd pass on it if I hated money.
