Anderson to start Saturday!

Matt Leinart will come off the bench behind Derek Anderson in the Cardinals' third preseason game Saturday.
Leinart isn't officially out as the starter yet, but it's a virtual certainty now unless Anderson faceplants. Leinart has earned the nickname of "Captain Checkdown" while looking tentative in the pocket and failing to move the ball in preseason games. It is also rumored that Larry Fitzgerald thought Leinart's weak arm would put the star receiver in harm's way too often. The report from NFL Network's Mike Lombardi that Leinart could be released before the season now has real merit.

According to Sommers Leinart will play the second QTR and start the second half. So who really friggin knows what Whis is up to here. Generally in game 3 of the preseason the starter plays the whole first half.

The part that blows me away is anderson has gotten a ton of reps already and matt hasnt, yet now anderson is going to play almost two full quarters? When does matt get a chance to truly play?

Also, no lutui in the starting lineup? if we are going to mix it up, lets fix things too.

Apparently a 58.5% completion rate, 4.7 YPA, 1 TD and 2 INTs is enough to give you a shot at the starting job.

For all this talk about Anderson's big arm and taking advantage of opportunities down the field, dude's YPA is over a yard less than "Noodle Armed Toast". Go figure.

Thats exactly why I think this spells the end for him. May just be a motive in Whiz's mind to get him moving. But IMO this will push matt off the plank.

I dont agree with it. But I'm certainly not crapping on him. he has free reign as far as Im concerned for like the next decade. I will support him 100%

Why would they both be cut? If anyone gets cut, it's Leinart.

But then again, maybe being the back up is what he can handle mentally. Capt. Checkdown wasn't getting it done and all of this scary pressure must be too much for him.

This makes it pretty clear (to me anyway) that Wiz isn't at all fond of Matt. I can't imagine this is only a way to screw with Matt's head. If it is - WHY? What's the freakin' point?

Yeah, but DA hasn't played with all the first team. Still, I don't think Matt has had enough of a chance to really take the reigns out there. He's played, what, two series a game? I think it's pretty clear that Whiz is not a Mattie fan.

I texted my brother the same thing this morning. Told him not to be suprised if one of those guys was cut or traded. He was shocked to hear that.

I still think they should give Leinart this last year to play. Will be interesting to see what DA does on Saturday.

It's brilliant. We are down to Breaston and a bunch of unknowns at WR. Why throw your starter Lienart out there and subject him to more of the same. Stick Anderson out there and let him show why he has no chance at being the starter.

Then everyone will realize that Matt is the best choice on the team right now.
