Why are you guys so worried about this? Come on he's an experienced return guy he returned... well looks like ONE PUNT in college for 3 yards. WTH?

He does have good hands but yeah he doesn't strike me as the next Terry or Eric Metcalf when it comes to punt returns you can't be afraid of contact it's critical. You have to be able to get your nose in there and catch punts because if you let them bounce they might pin you deeper. And you have to be able to come running up and make a play on a short punt.

I tend to agree with Somers I don't think he's actually going to wind up doing it I think they'll try it and he won't be very good at it but it sure would be nice if he was.

At least Nelson returned punts in college but if you look he wasn't all that good at it. He had 34 returns in 3 years 1 TD and 11 YPR which is good, but he had 26 fair catches so he fair caught like 45% of the punts. Unless they were kicking high and short to avoid him or something like that, it seems like an awfully high number of fair catches.

Unwad your panties people, you put your playmakers in positions to make plays. He's not going to get a lot of runs on offense and yet he's a dynamic player, so it makes sense to put him back there. I'd rather have DJ back there, but I get it when it comes to usage and # of plays. That's where he should be, given his lack of snaps on offense. You can't keep a talent like that on your team without trying to find a use for him.

Having AE as the kick/punt returner makes way too much sense.....
the best punt returners in history were little dudes that didn't want to get hit....little bastards get squirly

Yes but that's not get hit AFTER they catch the ball. His cousin is a return guy with SF and so far has been pretty pedestrian on punts but I think he also returned them in college.

2 of the best return guys in cards history were Terry and Eric Metcalf, small guys, but they also both had a long history of doing it both in college and the NFL and they were both guys that were very good at it, when to catch it and go, when to FC etc.

Hopefully AE is, agreed his ability in space is dynamic, we need that, but if he returns punts the way he's played behind the LOS recently it won't be his permanent job.
