I have said for years the Cards needed a stretch the field Wr and a Punt return threat. They just got it!! Although we needed a Cb, OL there was not one in this spot that gave the kind of value Roberts does. He made the Senior Bowl fun and I bet everyone knows his name after next year. Could be very Steve Smith like...take your pick on which one you want him to be like.

We only have 1 CB on this team. DRC. The rest are about as good as you or me out there.

That said, I actually like this pick, even though I prefer corner.

Man the hate McFadden gets on this board and the lack of faith in further development in Toler is astounding. I want another corner too but I don't think its as pressing a need as many are making it. Isn't Ghee still available? I could see him being the 4th pick.

I just don`t see using a 3rd round pick on a damn WR.The kid might be good........................CB is a bigger need IMO.

Maybe the Cards have a lot more faith in Toler than some here and if so, McFadden is good enough for a 5th DB

I dont get it either.

Cards filled my thoughts on what our 3 biggest needs so far. NT, WILB, and WR/PR. Actually SILB is also in front of CB IMO. Coaches like Toller a lot, and they just like myself believe McFadden played very well in the Regular season last year. If they didn't have faith in Toller becoming a player or the ability of McFadden they would not have made it a bigger priority in FA of which we didn't bring in a single person of interest, and we haven't drafted on in the first 3 rounds either. So much for all the talk that McFadden was a goner this year huh? As for DRC's knee injury it was an injury that is one of the easiest to rehab and come back from, of which if anyone saw him jumping around the stage at the draft party can attest to dude was jumping all over the place and looks healthy, with 3 more months to go before training camp.

OL isn't even in my own top 5 list of needs either.

We only had 3 WRs on the team, how was CB a bigger need??? We also needed a returner, so he fills both spots.

Did you watch the playoffs? Did you see McFadden, Adams and Toler? Did you see what happened when DRC went down?

Yikes. We need corners.

McFadden is TERRIBLE. Atrocious. He misses tackles like nobody I've ever seen, and can't cover for crap. Enormous disappointment.

Toler has potential, but beyond Toler and his potential, there is NOTHING. Mini..I mean, Money Mike is a heart guy, but he's just too small. There are some very good WRs in our division, and DRC can't cover them all by himself. The two playoff games showed how much we need good secondary play.

I agree with AF and Joe. Plus, with DRC and Toler being young and from small schools, a mid-round corner might leave too much inexperience in the defensive backfield. We can probably still pick up a decent, veteran dime corner via FA.

As for Roberts, Breaston was banged up last year and could leave next year via FA. Doucet hasn't exactly been a pillar of health. Onrea Jones has been cut by at least four teams over the last couple of years. If Roberts is as explosive in the pros as he was in college, I think he can be nice asset on this offense and insurance for a far from proven receiver group.

Abdullah also was eventually starting at FS. Should we also have drafted a FS?

Ghee's gone, but there are still plenty of quality corners out there:

Donovan Warren
Akwasi Owusu-Ansah
Dominique Franks
Perrish Cox
Syd'quan Thompson
AJ Jefferson
Walter Thurmond
Trevard Lindley
Crezdon Butler
David Pender

That's just 10 off the top of my head. I seriously doubt at least 3 of them are not still available when we make it up to the plate in the 4th. i still wouldn't be surprised to see the team go with Dillard or Chaney at SILB though instead.

As "terrible" Bryant McFadden was last season, he is still an upgrade over Rod Hood.

Well the coaches or any statistical evaluation don't seem to agree with you. I know this to be a fact, CB was not high on their list of priorities in free agency or the draft. Not even in their top 3 list, although they do have the philosophy that you can never have to many CB's. New CB coach Donnie Henderson likes what he see's.

Its funny almost every year the fans thoughts on what the teams needs are almost never align with what the team thinks they are. Most fans especially fans of other teams thought OL, CB, and OLB were still high on their list of needs when in fact NT and ILB were by far the coaches idea's of their biggest needs.

By a wide Margin. All that needs to be said is 2 TD's given up to Hoods 8. End of story. Our passing D in the regular season was leaps and bounds better then the prior season.

Andre Roberts really had a great Senior Bowl week. That is when I first noticed him. Here is what Scott Wright (NFL Draft Countdown) said abaout him during the practices at the Senior Bowl:

Nobody impressed me more today than Citadel WR Andre Roberts. To the best of my knowledge Roberts hasn’t dropped a ball all week and today he made a spectacular one-handed grab on a high throw. Roberts is without question one of the premier small school prospects in this draft and shouldn't come off the board any later than Round 3 or 4 in April.
His Senior Bowl game comments:
Citadel WR Andre Roberts had a nice game, finishing with 2 catches for 45 yards. On one play Roberts adjusted and reached back to make a terrific catch on a ball that was thrown well behind him.

I agree, but McFadden wasn't all that bad when he was in PIT. He wasn't great, but he was much better than he was for us last year in PIT. I think the big difference was that PIT has the established 3-4 and gets to the QB quick and has good LB's that can cover. Hopefully DWilliams can be the NTthis D desperately needs and DWashington taking some of the pressure off of the CB's with his coverage. I think Kerry Rhodes will be key, if he can come down and help McFadden I think he will be fine this year. That was McFadden's problem last year. He had absolutely no help. That was my gripe with Antron, he always seemed to be out of position and took poor angles that took him out of coverage, but the Giants are about to find that out now first hand...

I actually called the pick of the cards taking him in my cardinals mock draft over a week ago but i genuinely thought he'd last into the sixth where we would take him. I see him as an excellent slot receiver and punt returner but long term he can be a top number 2 receiver IMHO as thats his ceiling.

Chaney is NEVER a SILB he profiles only as a WILB. His coverage skills are outstanding but his play close to the line of scrimmage isnt all the best. His tackle technique needs a lot development. His best asset is his pass coverage which he does very well as he reads the game briliantly from the backfield, has the closing speed to get to the play quickly and nullify the thread that way. He is not a thumper that executes tackles well at all and for these reasons he wont be a SILB in the NFL.

I really like this kid---great hands and just produces. Kinda like a homeless man's Boldin. he's not nearly a strong, but much faster and is crazy dangerous in the open field.

That's real good to hear. I was actually kind of thinking about Decker from Minnesota but he went right before our pick. Then I started thinking about Taylor Price because we brought him in for a visit.

Now since we took Roberts over Price, they must really like him because they also really liked Price a lot. I remember reading his combine stats and was pretty impressed. Now add to that the run after catch ability and special teams skills, and you've got a great pick here.

Cardinals (from Baltimore) Andre Roberts WR Citadel
What he brings: Roberts is polished and shows the ability to run the entire route tree. He has great hands. His best skill, however, is his ability to run after the catch. He also brings added value in the return game.

Roberts really stood out for me during senior bowl week. I had never heard of him before then.

He showed soft hands and caugth the ball really well. He got great separation out of breaks. I saw him toast Patrick Robinson at least twice with great moves. Although he did have some problems getting off the line on occasion when CBs were in bump and run.

What great role models for a talented small school prospect to have as team mates in Fitz and Breaston.
