TMZ has learned Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed in a felony hit-and-run car accident
in Fullerton, California early this morning -- hours after he pitched in a game last night.

Cops say someone driving a minivan blew through a red light and hit the Mitsubishi that Adenhart was riding in. Three people were killed in the crash, including Nick.

Cops say the person driving the van fled the scene -- but was later caught and charged with felony hit-and-run.

We're told one of the other men killed in the crash was also affiliated with the Angels organization.

Nick was 22-years-old.

Quite amazing that ESPN has nothing on it. If it was a Red Sox or Yankee there would already be a tribute video made.

This is just so unbearably sad. I grew up in Anaheim and they were always "my" team. Even after moving to AZ and adopting the DBacks I have still had that soft spot in my heart for the Halos. They've had a lot of tragedies among members of their ball club. So hard to believe there is one more.

My sympathy and prayers go out to Nick's family, friends and teammates.

Driver in Adenhart crash charged with murder

The man accused of driving drunk and causing a crash that killed Major League pitcher Nick Adenhart and two other people has been charged with three counts of murder.

Authorities in Orange County, Calif., said Friday that Andrew Thomas Gallo was charged with three felony counts of murder.

Gallo, 22, of San Gabriel, Calif., allegedly drove a minivan through a red light in Fullerton, Calif., early Thursday, hitting a Mitsubishi in which Adenhart, a 2004 Williamsport High School graduate, was a passenger.

Adenhart, 22, and two others in the car — Courtney Stewart, 20, and Henry Pearson, 25 — were killed, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s office.

Another passenger, 24-year-old Jon Wilhite, survived, but was in critical condition.

Authorities alleged that Gallo was driving about 65 mph in a 35 mph zone while under the influence of alcohol. A news release issued by the DA’s office says Gallo’s blood-alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit of .08.

Also, his driver’s license was suspended and he was on probation because of a previous drunk-driving conviction, the news release says.

Gallo, who is accused of running from the scene of the crash, was caught less than 30 minutes later, about two miles away, the news release says.

Gallo also was charged with one felony count each of fleeing the scene of a traffic collision involving death, driving under the influence causing injury and driving with a .08 percent blood-alcohol level causing injury.

He was being held on $1 million bail and will be arraigned Monday.

The crash came hours after Adenhart pitched six scoreless innings for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. It was his fourth Major League game.

Gallo arraigned in death of Adenhart

SANTA ANA, Calif. -- A defense attorney has entered pleas of not guilty on behalf of a Southern California man charged with killing Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others in a drunken-driving crash.

Defendant Andrew Thomas Gallo watched Monday as attorney Randall Longwith entered the pleas in Orange County Superior Court.

The 22-year-old Gallo is charged with three counts of murder and other felonies in the April 9 crash.

Police have said Gallo had nearly triple the legal blood-alcohol level when his minivan ran a red light and crashed into a car carrying Adenhart and three others.

Adenhart died hours after he pitched six scoreless innings in his season debut.

Two others also were killed and a third was critically injured.

Give him the death penalty. I hope his attorney is a public defendant, because at least we no he had no choice in accepting the defend this monster.
