Beal could be totally the greatest player. It still wouldn't change the inflexibility we have with the second apron.
This isn't a single player issue so much as a collection of players. The cap is a total of all salaries. The Suns elected to add Beal to an already tax paying roster. The Suns are $25 million over the 2nd apron and about $38 million over the 1st apron. Even cutting 1 of our mid 3 doesn't get us below the tax line as a whole. We're over the 2nd apron next season by a projected $11.4 million. If we could somehow dump Grayson on a team we cap space we'd be below it. Should we? No. That creates another roster issue. This team is fundamentally flawed from top to bottom. 1 player isn't to blame and getting rid of 1 guy won't make us a contender.
We need a lot more done to be able to have flexibility. We could trade off KD and Beal and still not have cap space next season as we're $99.76 million over the cap next season, based on projections. It's not a last man who signed issue as everyone has their flaws. We need to examine who can have a team built to their strengths with the limited resources we have since tanking is out.
