After watching games tonight, seems like shes the color analyst for a lot of games this year again.

It almost makes the game unwatchable. She offers zero breakdown of any play; just literally states the obvious. What executive thinks after the game “Ann is doing a great job”.

Im sure somebody will say this is sexist in 2018, and in a way it is. Im only interested in hearing from someone who played or coached in the NBA. In this case, yes, that would be a man. Its like making Mike Tyson talk about womens cosmetics...

Get her off the TV...

I never cared much for her but she was ok with Steve Albert. He made everyone else sound better though. She seemed more interested in calling the game and talking about the Suns than personal anecdotes with Albert and that could be why she was better then. I didn't want her gone with Albert but now that he is gone, she needs to go also. She's bad. I don't mind her voice and don't mind women calling games but Annie sucks. She is an executive with the Mercury and has some front office position for the Suns also so I doubt she can be fired, at least without real cause and easily. I think she calls all Mercury games, which could be an issue in firing her also. With the changes to Fox Sports on the horizon, I hope that's one change that happens.

Eddie is the best color commentator in the league, IMO. He's always been one of my favorites but last year with Kevin Ray solidified that spot for him. He's great with everyone who he has worked with. He's not a homer and does call the Suns out when they need to be called on something. He also provides good insight and analysis with a good sense of humor.

Just thought I'd clarify, Fox Sports regional channels like FSNAZ are no longer Fox as they were sold in the Disney acquisition of Fox but since Disney owns ESPN and more they are supposed to sell them off for that deal to be completed. Who knows when they will happen but it should be rebranded in the near future.

She's in the basketball hall of fame... she has credentials.

But I do agree that she's really bland. I think the color person needs to be "colorful", especially if the team has a tendency to verge on comical.

Why doesn't Eddie Johnson cast every game?

Are there other teams who rotate casters like that?
I think that there are provisions in EJ's contract concerning skipping some road trips.

His equivalent with the D-backs, Bob Brenly, gets a week off periodically during the season to either be with his grandchildren or go fishing.

It's not like the old days. Although, with the D-backs, Gonzo filling in as color commentator is not in BB's league, he is pleasant to listen to and also calls it as he sees it.

I did like about Annie that, just like EJ, she never gave in to Steve Albert's Catskill comedian routines and corrected him or talked over him as his tenure wore on, getting the commentary back to the game. She has also done color commentary on Mercury games.

EJ is the iiish. but he can't do every game. He also talks on NBA radio.

I've said it before but man Ann is dry.

I know I'm alone on this and I know I've made this argument before but I'd still rather listen to Ann Myers than Eddie Johnson. Ann is very knowledgable about the technical aspects of the game of basketball although it seems to me that she treats it like a part time job. She needs to do a lot more homework about the current game and players. If it weren't for EJ, I'd say it was time for her to either put the work in or retire.

Eddie was great when he first started out but his ego got in the way. All too often he makes it about him. Tries to take credit for a player doing this or that and frequently takes the conversation back to when he was the greatest thing on hardwood. I can rarely stomach more than a half from him, I switch to the other team's announcers after I've tired of dry vomiting from his me, me, me crap.

I am a huge EJ fan, but I really enjoy listening to Ann as well. She is very calm, insightful, and intelligent.

Eddie Johnson. No contest.
I like to hear his insight/opinions/stories even if he said it before. If it applies to the situation again, he applies it. Many times he is sending a message to the players for their benefit. Not ours. He has to watch players make the same mistakes he learned not to. What is he supposed to say? EJ and Cotton my favorite color commentators.

She was also the only woman to sign a contract with a National Basketball Association team, the Indiana Pacers (1979)

On November 1, 1986, she married former Los Angeles Dodger Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Don Drysdale, and took the name Ann Meyers Drysdale. It was the first time that a married couple were members of their respective sports' Halls of Fame. They had three children: sons Don Jr. (DJ) and Darren, and daughter Drew.[23]

Meyers was widowed on July 3, 1993 when Drysdale died of a heart attack in Montreal, Quebec.[24]

Meyers was the sister of former NBA player Dave Meyers, who also played college basketball and was an All-American at UCLA, under coach John Wooden. He played four seasons for the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks.

Now that I know she married Don Drysdale, I like her more! LOL.

I was trying to watch some preseason games tonight and the announcers were unbearable. It seemed they talked about anything but the game. I'd take AMD any day over announcers who act like they are the entertainment.

I agree but sometimes they are okay. The play by play guy last year working with EJ (his name slips my mind) that retired and used to call boxing matches - he was a good shmoozer. He was smart and whitty and Suns were getting blown out so much they had to talk about something...

They do that in summer league too. Sometimes it’s Lindsay Smith asking the players if they are excited about something. I swear, it’s her first question every time. I like her , but she should be banned from using the word excited

Ann being a Hall of Famer may be enough to get her a job with the Suns or Mercury in some capacity but as a color commentator she lacks the personality to entertain viewers for 2+ hours. I don't think its discounting her previous accomplishments as an athlete by saying she's dull as a live analyst. Not a lot of people are good in that position so its not really a slight on her.

Hopefully the Suns can add someone better to fill in for Eddie when he's not available sooner than later. I would like to see Casey Jacobson given a chance, he's been on the pre and post game shows a lot and I thought he was headed in that direction when he started a few years back but he's been kept around in a smaller capacity for whatever reason.

Lindsay Smith seems nice and all but I never listen to her for information.

I'm not sure who you are talking about at the moment.

I was glad when Steve Albert retired from the Suns as a play-by-play announcer.

I'm sure he was talking about Steve Albert, the single worst announcer I have ever heard. Good voice, nice guy, but either completely clueless or legally blind - perhaps both. I'm sure he called a play correctly here and there but those calls were outnumbered and overpowered by his mistakes.

The boxing thing threw me. I wasn't sure if Steve Albert covered boxing. We definitely agree about his Suns coverage.

I don't follow boxing but I was given to believe that he was a very effective boxing announcer. I suspect he would have been an effective basketball announcer had he been doing it all along, at least until his vision deteriorated (guesswork on my part).
