Corey Floyd Jr. is set to finish his college eligibility with Providence after a Friday announcement.

The veteran guard will return to the Friars for a fourth season in 2025-26. It will be his fifth overall in college after using a redshirt with Connecticut in his 2021-22 debut.

Floyd started in 25 of his 29 appearances last season, averaging 9.2 points and 4.8 rebounds. He reached double figures in scoring 13 times, including a season-high 25 points in a March home defeat against DePaul.

Floyd’s most productive stretch came in the middle of Big East play, as he hit double digits seven times in eight games. He missed the following three while in concussion protocol after a motor vehicle accident near campus, including Providence’s last victory of the season. That was a 75-62 cruise past Villanova that helped cost the Wildcats any chance at an NCAA Tournament berth.

Floyd’s father, Corey, played at the school under Rick Barnes. Floyd now plays for Kim English, a former Barnes assistant coach at Tennessee. English said after a 75-69 loss to Butler at the conference tournament that the Friars would be looking to add both talent and character to their next roster — Floyd, by all accounts, fits that second qualification quite well.

“The intel, the information we get on guys — deep dives,” English said. “Really, really looking at who they are. Watching them at their worst. Talking to their coaches. Talking to everyone around them. Looking at their social media.

“Really finding out who they are. Cultivating that every day. It’s two parts.”

Floyd is the third player to announce a return to Providence next season. Freshman duo Oswin Erhunmwunse and Ryan Mela did so on Thursday, giving the Friars a pair of young building blocks. Providence will also bring in at least a pair of first-year players in Jaylen Harrell and Jamier Jones.

The Friars could face multiple departures with Bryce Hopkins and Justyn Fernandez set to formally enter the transfer portal when it opens on Monday. Jabri Abdur-Rahim has applied for a medical hardship waiver and could make a bid to return for a second season. Bensley Joseph and Wesley Cardet Jr. have both exhausted their eligibility and will graduate.
