I read this and wondered what the writer's source was. I'm hoping it's not Gambo's article on AzCentral.com, but it probably was. That article, IMO, was based on speculation, not fact.

I think Johnson actually makes a lot of sense, but that's me speculating. The closest thing to an actual reported tie of Brad Johnson to the Cardinals was on PFW in their "whispers". They said that they had heard through their moles that the Cards were interested in BJ.

No harm in being interested. They can always cut him if he's not panning out in the preseason. If he insists on guarantees, then look elsewhere, because he's not worth it.

Brad Johnson will have no problem getting some guarantees from teams a lot better than us. We better not forget anyone as there will not be a lot of QB's fighting to sign with us.

I am with you on this but would also consider a couple of others if they will come. Who knows which might be best working with our system and our coaches as that does factor into how they will perform. Anyone except McCown is my cry.

I would be chocked if we didn't sign Johnson. We're bringing back McCown, we might draft a QB at #8, so Johnson would be perfect both as a stopgap and a mentor.

We are going to keep McCown and Navarre, so whoever we sign or draft will be the only addition at the position. So its Johnson or a draft pick ... not both

Don't be so sure we'll keep either. If we sign Brad Johnson and draft our future QB in this draft, don't be surprised if either McCown or Navarre is gone. Personally I prefer Navarre over McCown.

I really think Brad Johnson is our best option out there. He's familiar with the system, and Denny has shown the ability to effectively use retread QBs in his offense. I think a guy like Jeff Garcia just doesn't have the arm strength to properly execute what we want to do here.

Agreed. We already tried this with Dave Kreig, Boomer and numerous other QB's in the 90's. I'm tired of having old QB's that are past their prime.

I want a franchise quarterback.

I want a decent starter.

Unfortunately these are things that are hard to come by. Name one decent starter that is available for a decent price and a long term solution. The reason all of these mediocre qb's are being mentioned is because it is near impossible to get a decent qb for a decent price.

He's not a mediocre QB. He won the superbowl a couple of years ago and had 26 TDs the year after that. He's a solid vet who can help us for a year or two while we develop our next QB, who hasn't been drafted yet.

If he's so great why didn't he start this season? He's getting up in years.. he won't play like he did 3 years ago.

My point exactly. I'd rather see McCown than Johnson.

I'm guessing you haven't watched him play this season. Because if you did and you still think he's a good QB ... you have serious issues. There was a reason that Brad Johnson was demoted to 3rd string.

Personally I prefer to stay away from getting the 3rd string QB of the Bucs for the 2nd season in a row.

BTW - They are going to keep both Navarre and McCown. Dennis Green and Rowan (our new OC) think highly of them both.

Just because you don't agree with their opinions doesn't mean that it changes things. You don't like Navarre and McCown and thats fine but that doesn't mean they are going anywhere.

The difference with the ghost of cardinal's past is that the Esiasons and Craigs didn't have a young guy behind them who was learning, watching and becoming better. The whole point of a veteran is competition (and I mean the real kind, not King-esq) and mentoring, not leading us into the next millenium.

The arguement for "if Brad Johnson's so good, why was he benched" holds no water....because if McCown is so good (or at least better than Johnson as you assume, why was he bench FOR TWO DIFFERENT PLAYERS, including a rookie during a winning streak?

Que? Where in the heck did this come from?

I never said Josh is a great or good QB (although I still think he has the potential to be). All I've said was the Josh played up to the avg level of NFL QBs in the final 4 games of the season as a whole ... meaning he is deserving of getting a roster spot and a chance to get the starting job next season (no guarantees).

It appears that coach Green and our new OC share the same feelings.

As far as Brad Johnson goes, having watched him myself earlier this season I'm telling you that he is done. He's lost his arm strength and has very little accuracy left. He could be a good mentor to our young QBs but as far as his career as QB, his best days are behind him.

Agreed, but who else is there? Jeff Garcia? Wanna talk about "done" stamped across his forehead. I think we just need a vet to teach and to step in for a few games if needs be because there isn't much out there this year. I think too many people who are against Brad Johnson misunderstand WHY he should be brought in and what his role is here....competition and leadership.

I think the Johnson signing might happen after the draft. Depending if Smith or Rogers fall down to us. Then we'd take one of them and have the 3 young guns duke it out.

A RB signing or trade happens B4 the draft IMO.

You seem to forget the 20+ INT's that same year, he has never been a great QB, pretty good at one point but his year of being pretty good are a distant memory.

I do not want a 36 year old QB who will do nothing but take up cap space and a roster spot.
