What we're seeing is a coach with no pressure to win instantly. He's changing up the depth of both lines, getting Mac's guys out, his guys in. So, Garcia and Wragge will be gone, Step and Leckey in. IMO.

3rd ranked center behind Stepanovich. I think Green/Graves feel we need more depth and strength at both center and the guard positions. Not a bad pick as some felt he would go higher.

I think it means Step moves over to G, or even T, and Nick sticks at C. We don't need any more OL depth, that's for sure! Both good value picks (I had us taking Nick in the round previous, and Step going before then). Good job, I say. We're FINALLY drafting according to real talent rankings, not reaching for what we need.

Still a bit odd to draft two projected centers even if they can play guard.

I'm still looking to get some OL help at tackle. The other Andrews is interesting as is Marco Cavka. I think they are still on the board.

Grren is sending a clear cut message to our current overpriced OL. You either start kicking a$$ or you will be replaced. I liked both picks!

Exactly this has me wondering though. One of the top 3 QB would sure not helped us this year but passing on franchise quality QB seems a bit short sighted to me. A quality WR comes along more often.

Remember our Center has injury problems and our RG is an epic battle between spikes and wells...... 'nough said........

BUT we still need depth in the secondary. The DE pick makes me wonder if a couple of the injured, underachieving DEs will be let go. Save some cap, get a younger guy.

Sorry, I'm not sold on that. I give Josh the benefit of doubt but if he is the next Elway or Montana he sure started out slow.

He might not be that bad but will he be as good as Manning, Rivers or Ben two years down the road?

According to the Coach we have a "franchise quality QB" - Josh McCown... thus, no need to invest massively in a second. :)

Let's just hope we are not in a position to draft one of them in the next year ;)

i'm not sold on it either, but coach green is, and his opinion is all that matters.

Well, my take, and that's all it is, is that Green seems to not worry that much about who his QB is. I think he believes his system is bigger than the QB. You look at how many QBs he had in Minnesota, he didn't seem very concerned with getting a "franchise" type. He went to the playoffs with Sean Salisbury, who did nothing before and nothing after. However, he certainly emphasized WRs.

It's possible that these 2 were what the Cards thought were BPA's in their round for the offensive line.

If they're better than let's say any guard who's available and they can play guard plus multiple positions then I say go for em.

Current OL guys Grace and Garcia may be casualties of this draft.

When Evaluating - We're Falling Into the "Need Trap"

Denny said he'd set up his board, let the players come off it and "who knows? Maybe we'll draft 2 tackles."

That's what's happening here. He and Rod are not drafting to fill needs. As a result, they are getting good value for each of their picks.]

Having been an advocate of a hybrid board (which ranks players according to ability but also weights need as well) my only problem with this is that we may eventually have a lopsided roster with too many terrific players at some positions and few if any at others.

For example - It looks like we will be trying to stop the run once again with Tanner, Bell and Russell Davis at NT. And we'll be going to war with Macklin, Starks (if healthy) and Hill to defend against an expanded core of big, fast NFL receivers.

But we did add quality to our roster - setting the stage for a high-powered passing attack, repairing some depth deficiencies on the inside of our offensive line, creating some solid competition at the Under Tackle position, bolstering LDE and adding a potential starter at OLB.

But man! What about cornerback and what about NT? Maybe Rod can swing a trade for McKenzie.

Macklin has been seriously underrated by many of the posters here, IMO. He is at worst a slight upgrade over Barrett.

I like the picks. Both can play two positions. Winning teams control the line of scrimmage, and the guys on both sides stunk it up last year.

My problem isn't with Macklin. It's at the corner position opposite him. We're hoping and praying that Starks can rebound to his Ravens form. The corner position opposite Macklin remains an uncertainty that you'd think most coaches would not want to avoid - particularly when going up against StL, Seattle and SF.

That's exactly what I think Jeff. If we draft the third center in the seventh everybody will be up.

If we drafted one of the two for depth at center and one for guard I'm fine with it. But we really don't need 3 centers and sure not a fourth if thats BPA in the 7th.

By the way Cavka is gone now as is Ryan Krause (WR) whom I penciled for the seventh.

Agree.

Because "Franchise" is a media thing. Every year their will be one.

A pass rush will work wonders. That was our focus with Dansby and Dockett.
