I loaded the IPOD software on our home computer for my son. We loaded some songs into his library. However, they are different than what is actually on the IPOD itself. I've done the "update" several times, but its not transferring the library onto the IPOD. Help!!!

1. PLug in your ipod to your computer
2. Are you preferences set to automatically update the ipod once it's plugged in and itunes is open? If so, it will update only what it's your itunes. If you have a song thats on your ipod, but is not in your itunes, you will lose that song.

If it isnt on automatic sync, wait for the ipod to show up on the left hand side. CLick on your itunes music library, hold it, and then drag it to your ipod. That should upload your itunes songs to your ipod.

That's the way I normally do it, there are probably other ways.

If you have playlists that are not automatic, not 'smartlists' but that you set up for yourself -- so for ex, rather than setting the playlist as a composer or as a group you make up your own personal score, you must drag and drop into it, it won't automatically update. On Smart lists you set the parameters in advance, like a group's name, or a genre, and it automatically updates any new uploads or downloads on your computer that match that parameter -- whether you want the new stuff in there or not.

BUT if you set a smart playlist by say a specific rule -- for ex, I set one up by 'album is' Dvorak -- and later added new Dvorak pieces from a different album, it won't recognize and add it to the ipod -- you have to change the playlist rule to 'composer is.'

If you switch between computers it will only update automatically off of one computer.
