The Falcons are kicking off with 2:03 on the clock, trailing by 8. They have 2 timeouts. Instead on kicking the ball out of the end zone taking no time off the clock, they appear to deliberately kick it short. After the runback there is only 1:57 left on the clock, thus burning the 2 minute warning.

You say odd, Harry, I say dumb. ATL gave away a free timeout. This discussion feeds into my long-held belief that NFL teams, with all their billions, should each hire a “clock coach.” This person’s only job would be to assist the HC in clock management. For example, during the last two minutes of each half the clock coach could let the HC know when it’s best to use a timeout, etc. Perhaps some teams are already doing this, but if not…why not?

Not a bad thought. The league would have to change rules as they limit the number of coaches a team can have.

Thanks Harry. I wasn’t aware that there was a limit on number of coaches.
