Another reason to pass on drafting a QB this year.

Look at the draft propsects for the QB position that could be available for the 2012 draft. The class is much better and deeper. Depending on how things go this year, there could be 5-7 legitimate 1st rounders next year.

Andrew Luck-Stanford
Matt Barkley-USC
Landry Jones-Okla
Nick Foles-Az
Kirk Cousins-MSU
Ryan Lindley-SDST
my favorite, if he has a big year and declares, Tyler Wilson-Ark.

and that's without anyone out of the blue showing up like Newton did this year. Other guys that are potentially high rated but haven't shown it in college are Brantley from Florida and Pryor from OSU. I've been touting giving a 2012 #1 pick for Kolb but looking at the potential in this class makes me think twice about that.

I agree Cbus because IMO big question marks follow all 3 of the potential 3 #1's this year. Plus I really don't think Wiz will add another QB project to the mix of the 3 we have.

1) I would pull a Ditka to get Luck
2) I'm not sold on Barkley & his abilities
3) Jones has improved & can throw the rock
4) Foles impresses me
5) Big 10 & Big 12 guys seem always produce NFL QB's, Lindley might be the best in some time

My fav sleeper is a gunslinger down in OK...Tulsa, Ok. GJ Kinnie

I think Brandon Weeden of Ok State should be included, he has a big time arm and is accurate. At 28 he'd be more mature and would have only 3 years of actual time on the field.

Don't forget that kid from Houston. Case Keenum.

He was 56-75 for 527 yards in the 2009 Conference USA title game. Now there is a QB CKW can love.

:p

And how does one sell this to Fitz?

(We promise to draft a QB in 2012, and he should up and running by 2013... sign here...)

Good question...selling Fitz on a 3-year wait for a QB that'll just get him the damn ball would be like trying to fake an erection; it just aint gonna work!

The only thing he would sign under the circumstances is his Amex receipt and be on the first stage out of town...as would any other top notch free agent who would stay away....team better come up with a winner now or real trouble ahead.

I like Fitz and think he should be kept, but if you're conducting your draft with the purpose of keeping one of your players happy, then the Cards front office has much more serious problems than even I thought.

Satisfying Fitz's want for a first rate QB is to the benefit of the team as a whole. He isn't "one player", he's the face of the franchise; generally regarded as one of the two, three best at his position - and conceivably could put up Hall of Fame numbers.

There is no way to get around it. Qb is the #1 need this team has. Get one in Free Agency that is a starting caliber NFL Qb or draft Gabbert if he is there at 5. I would even draft Newton at 5 before any any other position player. That is how important it is that we get a top Qb. Trade the #1 for Palmer and get him under contract for 5 years. Whatever it takes we need to sell out and get a Qb. If Whiz didn't learn from his fiasco at Qb last season then we will be in the basement again.

Pryor, imho, doesn't have the passing ability, at least he hasn't shown it yet, to be succesful at the NFL level. The only thing he really has going for him is that Vince Young has had some success. I think that's a good comparison for Pryor. They both are tremendous athletes that have issues throwing the ball. I would guess Cam Newton's size with Young's passing ability is the best comparison. Newton throws a much better pass than Pryor. Pryor is reportedly a very hard worker and a pretty good student of the game and some team will take a chance on him. I just don't think it will, or should be, in round 1.
